The University of Virginia seeks a new Assistant Director for Engineering and HS Renovations to join the Health System Physical Plant (HSPP) team within Facilities Management. Facilities Management (FM) supports the University of Virginia's wide range of research, academic and patient care programs. With over 1,200 employees dedicated to excellence, Facilities Management is responsible for the day-to-day operation, repair and maintenance of UVa's buildings, infrastructure, and grounds as well as other University-owned and leased properties.

FM’s HSPP is responsible for providing maintenance and responsive building and equipment service to UVA Health. The Assistant Director for Engineering and HS Renovations, HSPP, will provide leadership and direction for approximately 40 professionals and skilled trades staff that operate and maintain facilities for the UVA Health System. The position will provide primary engineering support for UVA Health operations as well as engineering liaison for Director of Facilities planning and Capital Development. The operations function is expanding rapidly with an additional 250,000 square feet of ambulatory care buildings scheduled to come online within the next six months.

Responsibilities include:

  • Review and assess the work of construction, renovation, and trades to ensure high quality work corresponding with a high level of customer satisfaction.
  • Ensure that supervised staff are overseeing the efficiency and quality of the work done by workers in their respective trades.
  • Coordinate between University departments and senior Facilities Management regarding work on Health Systems facilities.
  • Adjust preventative maintenance programs to extend equipment and systems life, maximize energy and resource conservation, and minimize emergency service calls.
  • Ensure that all work is accomplished in accordance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Manage cost center budgets to ensure fiscal integrity by analyzing data and justifying deviations or identifying discrepancies.
  • In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

The expected salary for this position is $110,000-115,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications. The successful candidate will pass both a background check and health screen.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline
Experience: Five years of experience.
Licensure: None required. P.E. preferred
