Department of Pharmacology, in the University of Virginia School of Medicine, is seeking a Research Scientist to conduct experimental and computational work in the laboratory of Dr. Irina Bochkis. The Bochkis lab is utilizing experimental and computational methods to understand genetic and epigenetic mechanisms that regulate metabolism. We utilize functional genomics, chromatin biology, physiology, and transcriptional regulation in a comprehensive approach to decipher molecular mechanisms in mammalian models of human metabolic disease. We are looking for a Research Scientist interested in epigenetic regulation and/or metabolism with experience in genomics and next-generation sequencing.

The successful candidate will work in a joint experimental and computational environment with excellent resources for experimental validation of hypotheses generated by genomic analysis. UVA offers a rich collaborative environment.

Interested candidates must have a PhD or MD/PhD in biology, biochemistry, genetics, genomics, or related field. Experience with next-generation sequencing of mammalian genomes (library preparation and sequence analysis) is preferred). 5-7 years’ experience is required, with 1-2 years’ laboratory experience in an academic or industrial setting required. Experience with mouse work is preferred. Proficiency with computer software, including Word, Power Point and Excel is expected.

Salary will be commensurate with experience and education.

This position will remain open until filled.

This is a restricted position continuation is dependent on the availability of funding and satisfactory performance.
