The Department of Pathology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a Laboratory Specialist Intermediate to support digital pathology and image analysis. The incumbent will support digital pathology, computerized image analysis, and hi-plex digital spatial profiling research projects carried out in the Department of Pathology and in the Biorepository and Tissue Research Facility (BTRF), a research core in the UVA School of Medicine.
Duties include whole slide digitization of histologic slides, organization and management of a digital image library, using image analysis software tools to perform quantitative analysis on multiplex immunohistochemistry images, and operation of newly acquired digital spatial profiling equipment for performing hi-plex genomic and proteomic analysis of cells and tissue. In addition, the incumbent will interact with researchers in planning and carrying out research projects.
Education: Bachelor's degree in science, biotechnology, engineering or data science fields.
Experience: 6 years of experience in a lab technician role. Master's degree may substitute for required experience. 9 years of experience accepted in lieu of degree.
Preference will be given to candidates that are proficient with computer spreadsheet and/or database software. While not requirements, knowledge/experience of histology, immunohistochemistry, statistical analysis and/or software coding will be seen as additional qualifications for this position.
This is a restricted position; continuation is dependent on funding and satisfactory performance.
