Nature of Work The School of Education & Human Development at the University of Colorado Denver partners with rural Colorado community colleges to offer multiple teacher licenses on community college campuses. These programs bring together Denver faculty with local experts to prepare the next generation of rural educators. The Early Childhood Education (ECE) pathway combines an Associates’ degree in Early Childhood Education from Trinidad State with a Bachelors’ of Arts degree in Education and Human Development with an ECE License from CU Denver in a seamless four-year program that is delivered at Trinidad State. The first two years of coursework is offered through Trinidad State and the second two years is offered through CU Denver at Trinidad State’s Alamosa campus in a combination of face-to-face, remote and online courses. The Partnership for Rural Education Preparation (T-PREP) Early Childhood Education Coordinator is a half-time position at Trinidad State College in Alamosa, Colorado. It is one of the key personnel in the ECE undergraduate teacher education pathway at Trinidad State. The T-PREP Early Childhood Education Coordinator would be an employee of CU Denver and would collaborate and receive support from the Trinidad State Residence Coordinator and other CU Denver administrators. This is a 12-month Instructor position that will be required to teach at least one course a semester.Professional FieldEducationSupervision ReceivedThe Coordinator will have an office on the Trinidad State campus in Alamosa. The position reports directly to Cindy Gutierrez, Director of Clinical Teacher Education and Partnerships Supervision ExercisedSupervisory responsibilities as determined by the Director.ResponsibilitiesOverall, the ECE Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the ECE pathway with colleagues from both Trinidad State and CU Denver. This includes creating partnerships with local community-based early childhood organizations and public schools in southeastern Colorado, supervising students in the field, supporting induction for new ECE teachers and building outreach and recruitment. Teach/Co-teach at least one course a semester. Additional teaching assignments may be added as needed. Examples of Work Performed:Recruitment & Admission- Collaborates with recruitment staff from Trinidad State and CU Denver to develop and implement outreach and recruitment plans in the ECE communities.Supports interested students in connecting with key personnel at Trinidad State and/or CU Denver to facilitate admission and financial aid processes
- Collaborates with advisors at Trinidad State and CU Denver to support advising Leads development and facilitation of ECE Learning Community for T-PREP students in the first two years at Trinidad State and last two yearsCollaborates with the SEHD Student Success Center and similar centers at Trinidad State to coordinate and/or provide academic, socioemotional support and help with navigating systems including financial aid and scholarships
- Initiates and facilitates ongoing partnerships with local community-based early childhood organizations and area schools where students engage in varying levels of clinical experiences during years 3 and 4 of the program - including early field experience and residency year internships Provides ongoing supervision, coaching and feedback to ECE students in early field experiences and residency year internships during years 3 and 4 of the programCollaborates with T-PREP@ Trinidad State Residency Coordinator to facilitate the connecting seminars for all students in early field experience blocks during Year 3 and the collaborative learning community seminars for all residency year internships in Year 4Works with field experience and internship sites to complete all clinical evaluations for all studentsCollaborates with CBO/school site coordinators to provide support to mentor teachers in their roles and problem-solves issues students and/or partners may experience.
- Collaborate with Trinidad State and CU Denver team to create and implement induction model for ECE graduates once hired
- Teach/Co-teach at least one course a semester. (Other teaching may be available for additional pay.)
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- A master’s degree in early childhood education or related fieldA strong base of early childhood teaching experience, particularly working with diverse student populations
- Leadership experience in community-based organization, schools, project coordination, and student support services
- Experience in higher education, preferably teacher educationExperience in teacher development, including mentoring and instructional coaching
- Knowledge of and experience with early childhood educationKnowledge of and experience with teacher education and/or supporting or coaching teachersKnowledge and experience with community based early childhood centers/organizations and local public schoolsKnowledge of resources for social, academic, and financial supports for underrepresented students in higher educationKnowledge and experience in working with diverse communitiesProficiency with technology in order to create systems of organization, communication and pedagogical support for the program
