Department Description:The TEACCH Autism Program began in 1972 as a system of university-based regional clinics to serve children, adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. As part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, TEACCH has an active clinical, teaching, and research program. TEACCH operates seven community regional clinics across the state, an Employment Services program as well as the Carolina Living and Learning Center (CLLC) which is a residential facility (ICF-IID) for adults with ASD. The CLLC currently serves 15 adults in its program. The mission of the CLLC is to provide an innovative community based residential program dedicated to maximizing the quality of life for individuals with ASD across the adult lifespan. TEACCH is part of the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) program and faculty are actively involved in student and professional training activities within the state, nation, and across the world. All TEACCH programs are coordinated through a central administration and research unit in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Position Description:The primary purpose of this position will be to work with adult individuals with autism, in a residential setting. The job involves supervising adults with autism and providing assistance with their daily needs and training on Residential and Vocational skills. It also involves documentation and administration of medication to clients. The job requires the ability to lead other Direct Care Staff and to develop effective working relationships with clients and parents. The position also has the responsibility of monitoring the activities of the residents and the ability to assist with the upkeep of the houses, gardens and grounds. This position requires the staff member to supervise and participate in both indoor and outdoor recreation activities on the farm and in community outings with clients and driving state vehicles as provided by the CLLC.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Essential Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:Experience working with autistic adults in a residential setting is required, as well as knowledge/understanding of the culture of autism and its relationship to visual teaching strategies. The selected candidate may be required to undergo fingerprinting and a national background check.
Preferred Qualifications:Ability to supervise Direct Care Staff and to develop effective working relationships with clients, parents and staff. Ability to complete on-going assessments and the ability to record data in written format and consider the effect of treatment variables. This position is located in Pittsboro.
Required Licenses/Certifications:Valid Driver’s License Required.
Special Physical and Mental Requirements:This position requires the ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and the ability to assist with the upkeep of the houses, gardens and grounds.

Location: UNC is located in the heart of Chapel Hill, the best college town in America! It's a friendly town of about 40,000 in the geographical center of North Carolina.
