Position Summary:

This position is a full-time clinical fixed term faculty member who will be involved with both clinical and research activities of the UNC Department of Psychiatry – Child and Adolescent Division. Clinical responsibilities include providing treatment and program development in the outpatient setting with a population of children through young adults with a specific focus in mental health for minority ethnic children and families. The successful applicant will develop outreach to children and parents. The successful applicant will have knowledge of the relationships between race, culture, religion, and immigration and knowledge of standards of care and impact on children, parents and mental health. Experience in psychodynamic and attachment theory and the capacity to work with trainees in co therapy models of treatment for children is strongly preferred. This position will have a focus on development in children and a portion of responsibility will involve working in collaboration with community partnerships to ensure access to care for children with developmental needs. Experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities is preferred specifically older adolescence through young adulthood including cognitive and adaptive assessment. Further opportunities include supervision of psychology and social work interns and teaching of fellows in psychiatry, medical students, residents, and allied health professionals, and conducting professional lectures and training seminars. A percentage of the position will involve implementation of quality improvement measures and presentation of this data in a variety of healthcare settings.

Educational Requirements:

Qualified applicants are those who have completed a Ph.D. in clinical psychology, who have at least two years of relevant supervised postdoctoral experience and who are licensed to practice in the state of North Carolina.

Qualifications and Experience:

Extensive experience with individual and family therapy is essential, with attachment and trauma-focused models necessary. Experience or training in methods such as person in environment strategies and motivational interviewing highly desirable. Experience with neuropsychological testing preferred. Experience in the development and implementation of education and service in a children’s hospital or interdisciplinary setting expected. Candidates with strong record of scholarly activity, particularly involving education within interdisciplinary settings are preferred.
