Title: Athletics Department Graduate Assistant – Sports Information

Description: Want to learn what it's like to be a member of a growing college athletics department that features 24 sports? In this unique role, you can gain valuable experience by interacting with and helping promote our coaches, student-athletes and teams by helping the Sports Information Director (SID) in various roles throughout the entire school year.

Throughout the fall and spring semesters, the sports information graduate assistant helps the sports information director with staffing CUI home games, keeping and updating CUI statistics/records, creating on-brand social media graphics and video content, as well as writing game recaps and feature stories. Good writing and storytelling are key components to this position, as well as the ability to help craft consistent and creative content on social media. It is the duty of the sports information department to share the accomplishments, game day results, and personal stories of CUI student-athletes, teams and coaches with people both on and off campus. We have raised the bar here at CUI in the sports information branch the past few years and now we want to not only maintain that high standard but continue to improve in our accuracy, efficiency and creativity moving forward. In particular, we want to incorporate more video elements as we continue to evolve. The sports information graduate assistant will serve as primary sports contact for some of CUI's sports as assigned by sports information director. You will help the SID manage and organize CUI student-athlete bios, bio pictures and action shots for daily use and for archive purposes. You will also assist the SID with organizing and taking team pictures, designing game programs and team posters as well as marketing upcoming home CUI events both on and off campus.

This also includes assisting with game management, including in-game statistics using Genius NCAA Live Stats (NLS), Statcrew and FOSH stat systems as well as scoreboard operation, scorebook keeping, stat spotting, and other game day duties as assigned. Primary duties will be as CUI statistician at home events using primarily Genius NLS software as well as social media engagement and generating consistent content for cuieagles.com which is our CUI athletics website.

The sports information graduate assistant will also serve as in-house sports information representative when SID is on the road with CUI teams. You may be required to travel with teams on certain occasions. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree and be enrolled in one of Concordia's graduate assistant programs. Familiarity with college sports, strong grasp of English language and ability to write coherent press releases and sports stories. Experience with Photoshop and InDesign is important, and experience taking pictures with either Nikon and/or Canon cameras is also a plus. Experience with Genius NCAA Live Stats, Statcrew and/or FOSH is a plus. Applicants should also have strong oral and written communication skills, be punctual and be good team players. Willingness to learn on the fly. Must be available for the majority of fall, winter, and spring sports. This includes all weekday and Saturday afternoons and nights, with some non-conference date variations as well.

    Location: Irvine, CA

Compensation: Contingent upon being accepted into one of CUI's master's programs and includes a stipend.

To be considered for this position, you must also fill out the attached Writing Sample as part of your application. Please address cover letter to Ben Rosehart (CUI Sports Information Director).
