General Summary of Position:

Responsible for assisting the University in ensuring compliance with various Federal, State and local regulations pertaining to sustainability and asset management programs. Works under the direction of the Assistant Director of Sustainability and in collaboration with the Assistant Director of Property and Asset Management.

This position assists in supporting, maintaining, developing, and implementing daily operations and programs related to sustainable practices such as waste minimization, recycling, energy conservation ,urban agriculture, and regular data reporting and analysis. Continued development and refinement of sustainable practices that promote UMass Lowell as a living laboratory for sustainability is expected and encouraged.

Engagement with student employees and the wider student body at UMass Lowell is a key requirement for this position.

The Sustainability Coordinator is responsible for the collection, servicing and enhancement of UMass Lowell’s sustainability programs, and assists in the university asset management program including physical inventory, asset tagging and the oversight of student employees.

Minimum Qualifications (Required):

  • Bachelors in an environmental related field with a minimum of two years of experience,
  • Knowledge and experience with implementing effective waste minimization programs (recycling, sustainability) for a large agency or program
  • Understanding of the university asset management system and related state and federal compliance policies and procedures
  • Establish and maintain productive relationships with program associated UML community, contractors and vendors
  • Ability to administer and monitor various awarded contracts and monitor, workers, contractors and vendors for effectiveness and thoroughness
  • Possess a current driver’s license

  • Self starter and goal orientated
  • Competency in all common office computer application, email, spreadsheets, word processing, etc.
