Position Title: Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness
Claremont Graduate University (CGU) is seeking a visionary, and forward-thinking leader with a demonstrated record of achievement in higher education/graduate education administration to serve as its Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness. This position supports the Executive Vice President and Provost in academic planning, strategic planning, program review, and accreditation, the administration of academic programs and policies; organizational change and management; academic business operations; and intercollegiate cooperation. Conducts research and prepares documentation in support of the work of the Office of the Provost and strategic academic initiatives. Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of new programs and continuous improvement, including metrics and timelines. Provides consulting support to schools, departments, and programs in planning, assessment, and review processes.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Collaborate with the EVP and Provost to coordinate and facilitate institutional planning activities:
- Serve as a member or leader on a wide range of institutional and consortia committees and ad hoc working groups related to strategic planning, academic administration, accreditation, and data integrity; including but not limited to assessment of student learning/curriculum management, academic standards, strategic planning, retention, data governance, academic computing, diversity and inclusion, and changes in systems related to data and operations.
- Serve as the ALO for the university. Responsible for oversight of the institution’s regional and specialty accreditation and assessment initiatives according to the standards and guidelines of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Prepare and submit annual and ad hoc reports to WASC. Develop and maintain documentation related to accreditation. Provide consulting support to departments in the development of substantive change proposals.
- Work with the Academic Standards Committee and program leadership to coordinate and facilitate the decennial program review process of the university. This includes overseeing the institutional data provided for the review, scheduling and coordinating all steps in the review process, orienting and serving as a resource for programs in preparing all materials for the review, and inviting and serving as liaison with external review committees.
- Assess, and/or improve business operations or implementation practices in the Provost's Office, or in targeted areas of the university as assigned, and/or discovered through business process mapping in the context of retention or data integrity functions.
- Work collaboratively across departments and schools to establish, support, and maintain a systematic and consistent assessment and review framework; facilitate the continued development of a culture that values evidence-based decision making; facilitate and support progress in diversity, equity, and inclusion Engage stakeholders in meaningful assessment.
- Lead and/or complete special projects assigned by the Executive Vice President and Provost that require independent judgment, high level analytic abilities, excellent communication skills, and ability to deliver quality products.
- Analyze and interpret information, reports, and proposals to ensure accurate and complete information is available to the EVP and Provost for decision making. Anticipates issues and troubleshoots problems as they arise.
- Collaborate with University-wide leadership on the development of, compliance with, and revisions to academic policies. Provides updates to the university faculty handbook in support of the University’s mission and goals. Support effective communication about the handbook and policies.
- Build and maintain relationships with university, consortium, and other stakeholders to improve service from the Provost's Office. Collaborate and communicates effectively across stakeholders.
- Supervise staff in the roles of institutional research, academic affairs, and registrar functions, and additional support through student workers or consultants, for the Provost's Office.
- Participate in higher education professional organizations and keep abreast of national, state, and local educational issues.
- Other duties and projects as assigned.
- Master’s Degree in Business, Public, or Higher Education Administration or Organizational Development, or a doctorate from an accredited college or university is preferred with ten years’ experience working in responsible position(s) or any combination of education and experience that meets the requirements of the position.
- Should have experience applying organizational development principles and processes to managing complex change processes in academic, business or government settings.
- Experience in oversight of qualitative and quantitative research methods and data analysis.
- Possess high degree of information and computer literacy.
- Ability to manage concurrent projects.
- Demonstrated success collaborating in a multicultural and diverse environment.
- Success in promoting diversity and inclusion and proven experience working with faculty, student, and staff populations along multiple lines of difference.
- Leadership capabilities and ability to problem solve, facilitate meetings, and maintain flexibility, and see projects through to completion.
- Demonstrated understanding of pedagogy and faculty development.
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to faculty governance.
- Understanding of assessment and accreditation in higher education.

- HOURS: The regular hours for this position are 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday. Hours may vary due to needs of the College or department.
- CLASSIFICATION AND STATUS: Exempt.
- SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Four full-time staff members. Student workers where needed.
- REPORTS TO: Provost and Executive Vice President
