01-Jun-2021 Close All Job SummaryThe position of Program Manager in the ADA Compliance unit of the OIEC at the University of Colorado Boulder supports the compliance mission of the ADA Coordinator's office to help ensure adherence to Titles I and II of the ADA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and the Fair Housing Act.
This position will share responsibility for educating the campus community and promoting equal access and opportunity for those with disabilities. This position will also be primarily responsible for providing reasonable accommodations for all employees at the university, including permanent faculty and staff, research faculty, temporary employees, and student employees. Additionally, this position will operate within a team of campus partners to addresses the structural accessibility needs of the campus community (in partnership with Facilities Management and Housing Facilities Services) and the access needs of the public (in partnership with various departments).

  • Responsible for administration of accommodation requests for employees with disabilities and pregnant employees, including engaging in the interactive accommodation process with employees and departments, reviewing and evaluating medical information in accordance with the ADA, determining reasonable accommodations, coordinating the implementation of reasonable accommodations, and engaging in follow up as vital to ensure accurate accommodation.
  • Must be capable of working well on teams and must demonstrate appropriate sensitivity when discussing medical issues with employees and maintain confidentiality as vital.
  • Draft documentation outlining accommodation decisions and manage applicable case records; Advise campus departments/supervisors on approaching disability-related or pregnancy-related issues in the employment context and train on related topics as appropriate; Represent ADA Compliance Unit during Reasonable Employer Process meetings and manage “return to work” cases.
ADA Title II Access Program
  • Represent ADA Compliance Unit and attends and provides guidance at various campus committee meetings, which may include among others the Sub-Committee for Digital Accessibility meetings, Commencement Committee meetings, and the Housing Accommodations Committee.
  • Provide informal consultation to campus departments requesting accessibility advice.
  • Shared responsibilities for interpreting and captioning coordination as well as answering ADA phone lines and providing sufficient information for appropriate referrals.
  • Shared responsibility for ensuring compliance with accessibility for event access, which includes: commencement access: ASL, captioning, seating, flooring, transportation, and brochures; conducting walk-throughs for departments hosting events; and reviewing and revising websites for departments.
  • Shared responsibility for assessing accessibility for special events hosted on campus through CU Presents, which include: Macky Auditorium, Department of Theatre & Dance, College of Music (including Artist Series, Takacs Quartet, Opera Program), and Colorado Shakespeare Festival.
Training, Education, and Outreach
  • Provide training and educational forums to members of the campus community on various aspects of Title I & II ADA and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act as needed.
  • Seek out areas where additional training is required and where new relationships can be built and identify areas where existing relationships should be strengthened.

  • A bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • At least one year of case management experience, preferably related to disability accommodations, FMLA, Workers Compensation or leave programs, or other ADA or disability-related work experience. Educational Substitution: A master's degree or JD with relevant coursework in the field of employment and disability law may substitute for the one-year experience requirement.

What We Would Like You To Have
  • Experience working in a higher education setting is preferred. Specific coursework related to equitable access, the ADA, or employment discrimination is also preferred.
