Job Description:​

The Director of SUNY Geneseo’s Student Support Services (SSS) Program will provide direct oversight and supervision of all activities and collaborative efforts in accordance with the established goals and objective of the approved grant project. This includes student recruitment, and application and selections procedures for the SSS project. The Director will be responsible for training staff and other stakeholders pursuant to all federal regulations, Office of Management and Budget (OMB) circulars, Electronic Data Gathering Analysis and Retrieval (EDGAR) System, college policy and procedures. The Director will plan and monitor the budget in accordance with program goals and work with the Grants Management Office to generate financial reports and statements. The Director will also oversee the recordkeeping system that facilities program planning, development, execution, and evaluation. This addition, this individual will supervise and evaluate all SSS staff. This is a full-time 12-month position. This position is grant-funded and is anticipated to last through 8/31/2025.

SSS is a federally-funded TRIO grant program sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education. The mission of the newly awarded SUNY Geneseo SSS Success Program is to provide comprehensive academic support services to increase the retention and graduation rates of low-income and first generation students and/or students with disabilities by fostering academic success in a supportive educational and advising environment. The SSS Success Program at SUNY Geneseo will serve a minimum of 140 participants per year.

Duties:

• Provide academic, personal, career, and financial aid counseling to students enrolled in SSS Success Program, including advice and assistance in course selection
• Supervise the identification and selection of participants
• Hire, supervise, and train program staff, including academic peer mentors
• Select, manage, and evaluate professional tutors
• Assist with recruitment and admissions process of SSS students, including developing program marketing materials and website, training Admissions staff, and outreach to students
• Assist in communications with local community colleges and presentations to internal and external constituents about the SSS Success Program
• Coordinate with internal departments for marketing, referrals, and services
• Authorize and monitor all program expenditures
• Monitor compliance with U.S. Department of Education guidelines and policies, program guidelines and policies, and college/SUNY guidelines and policies
• Maintain data on students served by the SSS Project and complete required reporting
• Ensure data-driven evaluation of the entire program, including student progress and support services via EAB Navigate
• Work closely with Financial Aid to provide application support, loan alternatives, and financial and economic literacy
• Work closely with Career Development to assist with graduate/professional program applications and targeted career support for in-demand occupations
• Assist with SSS orientation, workshops, and SSS Seminar
• Advise and coach students in the SSS program on academic success strategies and problem solving
• Monitor students’ attendance, behavior, grades, test scores, and credits earned; implement improvement strategies and action plans

Education/Experience:

• Master’s degree in counseling, academic administration, or a related field
• A minimum of two to three years’ experience in a supervisory role within student academic advising/counseling at an institution of higher education

Required Qualifications:

• Experience in overcoming barriers as a member of an underserved community or working with individuals similar to those of the target population
• Experience with intrusive advisement, student academic assessments, and student-retention programs
• Experience working with diverse populations on college campuses and demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion
• Experience developing, implementing, and managing an academic support program
• Strong written, oral presentation and communication skills
• Proficiency with Google Tools and Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior TRIO program(s) experience
• Previous experience working with students with documented disabilities and students from diverse socioeconomic and ethnic backgrounds.
• Experience with student early-alert systems
• Experience in grant administration and budget management
