Department Summary:

The Student Financial Aid & Scholarships (SFAS) Department is committed to helping students achieve their educational goals by providing financial guidance and assistance within the guidelines of regulatory requirements. Through educational endeavors and student outreach, SFAS remains a vital contributor to UNT’s enrollment success.

Position Overview:

This position is responsible for managing the administrative operations and customer
related services for a department or program. Coordinates activities and acts as
department/area liaison handling issues that are very sensitive and confidential. This
position serves as the primary contact for a specified program or departmental functions
to include recommending and implementing administrative departmental procedures.
Duties have substantial variety and are often not routine.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree and three years of highly responsible and varied office administration or business management experience; or any equivalent combination of experience, education, and training

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Exceptional customer service skills.
• Advanced Microsoft Office skills.
• Knowledge of accounting/budgeting procedures.
• Ability to work under pressure, to adjust to constant changes, to handle multiple tasks, and to coordinate the work of others.
• Ability to keep complex records, to assemble and organize data of complex
nature, and to prepare and submit reports in acceptable formats.
• Ability to conceptualize, plan and organize multiple programs and assignments effectively.
• Ability to work on complex and confidential tasks utilizing judgment, tact, and resourcefulness.
• Skill in developing and maintaining good working relationships.
• Knowledge of policies, practices, procedures and terminology of assigned
• Supervisory skills.

Physical Requirements:

Responsible for the management of administrative operations for a department or program and functions as an office manager.


Responsible for assisting with oversight of budget (including reporting and forecasting), purchasing, travel, human resources, and property control functions.


Analyzes and makes recommendations on existing processes and is responsible
for implementing approved changes. Responsible for developing new
administrative processes.


Responsible for non-routine correspondence, data compilation and analysis,
preparation of reports, forms, meeting notes.


May also provide direct support for an administrator including: calendar maintenance, correspondence and related responsibilities.


Responsible for hiring work study students for employment in the administrative area of Student Financial Aid and Scholarships.


Processes mail, including financial aid documents and external scholarship checks.


Serves as the department’s time keeper for full time staff as well as work study students.


Balance staff leave accruals to ensure accuracy.


Assist senior administrative coordinator in making travel arrangements and schedule accommodations for the Executive Director, Directors, and other staff members according to state travel guidelines.


Assist with preparing and filing travel documents for the Directors and staff.


Responsible for new employee documents for the department.


Provide good customer service to both internal and external customers.


Serve on special work groups or committees as requested by the director or administrative staff.


Perform telephone receptionist duties: answer 2-3 telephone lines, relay calls and messages, schedule appointments. Assist Sr. Administrative Coordinator in greeting and screening visitors to Director’s office. Provide courteous, helpful service to students, faculty and staff.


Other duties as assigned or required.
