The Department of Physics is a diverse team, including about 20 faculty members, 70 graduate students, and more than 10 support staff members. Faculty are active in carrying out state-of-the-art research in the key areas of physics with the participation of graduate and undergraduate students. The department is committed to excellence in teaching students across the campus with innovative pedagogy. The education goal is to prepare students to be life-long learners and competitive in job market.

Position Summary:

The Department of Physics at the University of North Texas is seeking a Senior Lecturer to serve in a continuing, full time position and to start in the January 2022 academic semester. The department serves students from across the University’s population, including physics majors. The Senior Lecturer position is an important pedagogically oriented element of the department’s delivery of courses for freshman and sophomores from STEM and non-science areas.

The Senior Lecturer will be required to teach introductory physics and astronomy courses and may be assigned to teach core undergraduate courses in physics depending on the departmental needs. The candidates are expected to teach 3-4 courses per semester with the potential for a course load reduction for other assignments such as assisting in recruiting, professional activities, undergraduate advising, course development, lab management, and service activities. The candidate is expected to coordinate the teaching of introductory courses and labs to ensure consistency among different sections. The department is looking for student-focused candidates with demonstrated teaching using interactive and engaged methodology. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s of Science in Physics Education, Physics, or Astronomy with 3 years of full time teaching in college or university.

Candidates should have at least 3 years of teaching experience as full time lecturers or equivalent positions at the college level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. degree in Physics Education, Physics, or Astronomy. Experience in undergraduate advising and lab teaching or management is preferred.
