Position Summary

The Department Plant Soil and Microbial Sciences at Michigan State University, College of Ag and Natural Resources is seeking a Research Technician in the Douches Lab.
The research in Dr. Douches’ lab covers a broad array of topics such as potato breeding, genetics, germplasm enhancement, genetic engineering and gene editing for pest resistance and quality traits. Dr. Douches’ lab also uses a wide variety of experimental approaches, including molecular biology, genomics, bioinformatics, and plant transformation/gene editing which are applied to projects related potato improvement. Our central vision is to improve the potato for quality traits and for disease, insect and abiotic stress resistances through our multidisciplinary team. Job duties will include conducting disease and insect bioassays on potato species to identify resistant germplasm that can be used in potato improvement.

This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or other related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic research techniques in the specific or related field; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in the specific field of research employment or related field; up to six months of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in basic and applied research techniques in the specific or related field; word processing, spreadsheet; database and/or desktop publishing software; presentation software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience with potato research, disease testing and tissue culture are highly valued.
