Position Summary

The Lean Enterprise Manager (LEM) assists with the Lean Enterprise Excellence transformation of the Residential and Hospitality Services (RHS) division in it’s pursuit of delivering outstanding Spartan experiences by implementing Lean Enterprise Excellence principles, concepts, and practices with multiple broad, cross-functional process improvement teams; strives to significantly improve business performance in the areas of goods production and customer service as related to the following performance metrics: cost, on time delivery, throughput, quality performance, defect reduction, and profitability; facilitates process improvement events that support team and employee development in Lean principles, tools, and concepts, such as: Value Stream Mapping, Level Loading, Waste identification and reduction, 6S, standardized work, Visual Management, TPM, SMED, Problem Solving, etc.; assists Chief Lean Enterprise Officer with obtaining input from internal and external customers on process improvement opportunities, evaluating and applying statistical tools to data, establishing potential savings opportunities, and presenting information to RHS leadership for approval; assists with establishing foundation, metrics, and related processes for conducting and documenting lean efforts and validations; provides and maintains Enterprise Excellence information within RHS and other MSU organizations; performs other job duties as assigned by the Chief Lean Enterprise Officer.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting, Business, Human Resources or a field related to the area of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience in a setting which corresponds to the department of employment including accounting, finance, budget development and administration and application of information systems and technology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering, Business, or related field with five years of continuous improvement experience in an organizational environment; technical certification in a Lean Thinking, Lean Production or related field; experience with continuous improvement for multi-site or multi-buildings; Lean/6 Sigma Certification, American Society for Quality Certified Manager of Quality/Organizational Excellence or American Society for Quality Certified Quality Engineer; experience with the following methodologies and practices: FMEA, Kaizen, Lean tools, 5S, Visual Factory Aids, SMED concepts, VSM, VOC, and Poke Yoke; PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) certification; demonstrated experience and/or education in leading project and process improvement events; knowledge of Lean Production, Lean Manufacturing, Lean Construction, and/or Lean Thinking principles and methods; strong understanding and experience in Continuous Improvement, Operational Excellence, Lean Principles, statistics, and data analysis; experience optimizing the performance of one or more of the following: business and managerial systems, line process inputs, job shop operations, information flow, raw materials flow, conveyance, blending, and drying systems, continuous process operations, quality systems for defect elimination, EHS systems for a safe working environment, operational systems for waste elimination, people development for engagement and ownership; proficient in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
