Grant and Project Management Specialist

Position Summary

The College of Engineering at Michigan State University invites applications for a one-year fixed-term academic specialist position as a Grant and Project Management Specialist. Employment may be extended based on performance, availability of funding, and mutual agreement.

This position will be responsible for enhancing the research capacity in the College of Engineering through improved quality of proposals, developing improved research strategy and grantsmanship skills in investigators, and outreach to partners for sponsored research and translation opportunities.

Duties include:

  • Proposal development, including collaboration with investigators on preparation of multi-investigator, multi-unit, and multi-institutional proposals for sponsored research, management of proposal teams to achieve high-quality unified proposal products.
  • Provide outreach to industry and other institutions as well as the public to connect sponsored research and engagement opportunities to faculty, and development of opportunities for research and translation with corporate partners, including preparation and management of collateral materials and web presence.
  • Provide intermittent research proposal pre- and post-award support in triage situations, particularly for large proposals in which support is provided for the research strategy and articulation.
  • Faculty grantsmanship development, including webinars on development of career plans, including research roadmaps and identification of funding sources.
  • Provides training, technical assistance, oversight, ethics advice, expertise, and consultation to program officials, awardees, review panels, applicants, recipients, and sub recipients as needed.

    Required Degree

    Doctorate

    Minimum Requirements

    At least five years of demonstrated experience, in a higher education environment, in cross-departmental and multiple investigator grant proposal preparation and extensive knowledge of funding strategies in a higher education environment.

    Desired Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Federal grants regulations and policies and an understanding of business and industry grant practices.
  • Experience in grant financial analysis and providing technical assistance and recommendations to meet the intent of the grant.
  • Capacity to simultaneously manage a number of varied projects in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Keen attention to detail and highly organized with a mind for thoroughness.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated initiative and independent thinking.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the University.
