Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing Program

The University of the Pacific (Pacific), in partnership with the national search firm, Scott Healy & Associates, invites applications and nominations for the position of Program Director of the Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (Director). Reporting to the Dean of the School of Health Sciences, the Director will be responsible for program planning, implementation, administration, fiscal management, and ongoing review and assessment for the ELMSN Program. Located on the Sacramento campus, the ELMSN program is a pre­licensure, master’s degree program with a focus on integrating the American Association of Colleges of Nursing 2021 new Essentials. The Director will be responsible for the attainment of accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) in 2023, as well as maintaining Board of Registered Nursing approval. This is a twelve­month, non­tenure track faculty appointment. Academic rank is commensurate with experience.


· Plan, develop, and evaluate all courses and the overall curriculum in collaboration with

the faculty;

· Coordinate and participate in student recruitment, admissions (including collaborating with the Enrollment Management office), advisement, evaluation, and counseling;

· Recruit, supervise, support, and evaluate the ELMSN program staff and faculty, monitoring workloads and performance based on the needs of the program and curriculum;

· Teach required courses in the curriculum in areas of expertise;

· Oversee budget, and manage program resources ethically and responsibly in accordance with University policy;

· Engage across professional and disciplinary programs at Pacific in the development and growth of the curriculum to ensure meaningful collaborative opportunities in all aspects of the teaching and learning program;

· Use innovative instruction and technology in the development and delivery of the curriculum;

· Provide leadership for university regional accreditation;

· Attain and maintain CCNE accreditation;

· Oversee the development and maintenance of relationships with preceptor sites;

· Oversee program assessment working in collaboration with faculty in the program, the nursing program evaluator, the School Director of Assessment and Accreditation, and the university;

· Serve on internal and external committees and taskforces as requested by the Dean;

· Serve on state and national professional committees as appropriate;

· Represent the program to community and healthcare organizations;

· Develop and maintain a program advisory board;

· Actively work on scholarship endeavours

· Assist in other related areas as requested by the Dean.

Minimum Qualifications:

· An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D., or DNP);

· Registered Nurse licensed by the State of California or eligible for licensure within one

year of appointment;

· A minimum of three years’ experience in graduate/pre-licensure nursing education;

· Eligibility to meet Board of Registered Nursing approval as Director;

· Knowledge of state, federal, and local laws and regulations relating to program compliance and Board of Registered Nursing Codes and Regulations;

Preferred Qualifications:

· Documented leadership as Director of a Pre-Licensure Program;

· Experience with CCNE accreditation;

· Experience with simulation and other innovative teaching strategies.

· Experience leading teams of educators or clinicians

Skills and Expertise:

· Effective interpersonal skills and sensitivity to academic and personnel issues;

· Strong written and verbal communication skills;

· Proven organizational ability;

· Ability to mentor personnel;

· Demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion and proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations.

About the Nursing Program and the School of Health Sciences:

University of the Pacific is expanding its health science programs on the Sacramento campus to offer an accelerated graduate nursing degree program: the Entry Level Master of Science in Nursing (ELMSN) Program. This program is uniquely designed for students who have a bachelor’s degree in any field who seek an accelerated pathway to become licensed as a nurse and attain a Master of Science degree in nursing. This program will prepare professionals for high-demand careers in leadership, population health, patient care and public health nursing. The curriculum will include a diabetes management concentration and inter-professional education across our three campuses.

The School of Health Sciences was built on Pacific’s long-standing reputation for educating health care professionals and features innovative curricula, accelerated programs, extensive experiential learning and clinical training for all students. All programs include interprofessional education experiences designed to prepare students to deliver health care in a team-based model. The Pacific School of Health Sciences prepare practice ready athletic trainers, audiologists, clinical nutritionists, physical therapists, physician assistants, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, and social workers to meet the health care demands of our community including the Central Valley and in Northern California.
