The University of Dayton Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering invites applications for a Lecturer position specializing in either robotics-autonomous systems or manufacturing. The position is a non-tenure track position renewable annually and begins August 16, 2021.

The successful candidate will teach four courses each semester. For the robotics-autonomous systems specialization, the courses would include, for example, mechatronics and introduction to robot design. For the manufacturing specialization, the courses would include, for example, manufacturing processes and mechanical design. Summer teaching is generally available.

Minimum Requirements

● ABD with anticipated completion of Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field by July 1, 2021.
● Effective written communication skills
● Demonstrated commitment to understanding and promoting inclusive excellence
● Articulated potential for teaching excellence particularly employing active and experiential learning pedagogies

Preferred Requirements

While applicants may not possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following qualifications:

● Successful experience teaching courses concerning either autonomous-robotic systems or manufacturing processes
● Commitment to the breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition
● Successful experience in engaging individuals from diverse backgrounds
● Commitment to service to the community, university, and profession
● Effective oral communication skills
● Effective interpersonal skills

Special Instructions

Interested persons must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, contact information for three references, and statement of teaching interests and philosophy. This statement should address any previous experience with the application of active and experiential learning or how these pedagogies would be employed in a course. Please provide a statement as to how you would promote inclusive excellence through your research, teaching, and service. There is a limit of two pages for each of the above items. If the Ph.D. is not completed, the research advisor must include a letter stating that the candidate will complete all requirements July 1, 2021.
