Video Content Creator and Storyteller

Knox College invites applications for a full-time Video Content Creator and Storyteller in our Office of Communications, responsible for collaborating with Communications colleagues, partners, and clients across the College to research, develop, and execute upon innovative ideas to tell the stories of the College, ensuring that all video content reinforces and supports the College’s primary brand and marketing messages, and effectively engages audiences in the stories about Knox College. This role also maintains a strong commitment to the authenticity and integrity of the educational program, which requires a thorough understanding of the College, its history, and its mission. This position reports to the Executive Director of Communications.

Essential Duties:

  • Research, develop and produce (concept, plan/storyboard, shoot, edit, post-production) videography to support the College’s visual storytelling efforts to support student recruitment, College reputation, and advancement initiatives
  • Manage and train student video workers
  • Manage and curate the College’s YouTube and Tik Tok channels
  • Develop videos for digital and social media ads, and original content for additional social media outlets, including Instagram, Snapchat, Twitter, and Facebook
  • Train fellow Communication team members, as well as other college staff, on video storytelling and the basics of videography shooting and editing
  • Oversee student video workers, including hiring, training, and managing each student, and working with them to produce authentic, high quality work

Education and Experience:

Required Qualifications:

  • Previous Job Experience: Minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience and/or training in videography, or visual storytelling. Must include video planning, storyboarding, and production, post-production, writing, and editing.
  • Competence and confidence in providing social media video content, including developing video for digital and social media advertising, and in leading video-focused social media platforms, such as Tik Tok.
  • Special Skills:
    • Excellent creative eye; high level of attention to detail, especially in producing and editing content;
    • Experience and comfort with social media;
    • Ability to gather and synthesize a large volume of information quickly and translate it into coherent, marketable, and newsworthy visual forms;
    • Ability to clearly communicate college mission and messages within short and longer-form videos;
    • Strong understanding of visual, photographic composition;
    • Expert knowledge of required videography equipment and its use;
    • A very high-level of proficiency with video editing and software; and
    • A basic understanding of content management systems.
  • Ability to work flexible hours which include night and weekend hours in order to meet deadlines and cover campus events.
  • Ability to travel occasionally, primarily for general and project-specific development.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree and/or equivalent work experience also accepted. Fields of study and/or experience can include photography, art, interactive media, visual media, or journalism.
