Advertised Job Summary:

Plans develops and directs a comprehensive public safety information and education program for the Division of Law Enforcement and Safety (DLES) which includes communication strategies of long-range goals, activities and objectives. Participates with top management in decision making relative to police/community relations and keeps department leadership informed as to how and why certain pieces of content resonate with audiences more than others, what makes certain content worth sharing, and the importance of engagement as a metric of success on social and other communication platforms. Develops and maintains websites and publications that provide information and statistics to provide transparency with community. Develops, promotes and educates students. faculty and staff regarding the Carolina Alert System and the UofSC Emergency Notification System. Develops, writes, edits and publishes campus safety materials for dissemination to the university community. Through coordination of social media best practices, graphic design, and organizational communication, build and maintain relationships between the unique brand of the UofSC police department and the community. Creates marketing materials for a range of audiences that builds awareness of, drives engagement with, and enhances the reputation of the university police and commitment to Police/Community Relations, as well as recruitment of qualified and diverse police applicants. Creates original concepts and designs that support the long term goals and strategic needs of the department and the university community.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions):

Master’s degree and 1 year professional experience related to the development and dissemination of informational material, or Bachelor’s degree and 3 years related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and professional experience related to the development and
dissemination of informational material.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Strong organizational skills, including project management, a proven ability to meet
tight deadlines and multitask effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication
skills. Working knowledge of the Adobe Creative Suite, OU Campus, and/or other webbased
design / content management software tools. Reasonable understanding of
photography. Thorough knowledge and highly adept at use of Facebook, YouTube,
Twitter, Instagram + IG Stories, Snapchat, LinkedIn, and other currently relevant
platforms as needed. Knowledge of agency programs, policies, procedures, objectives
and goals. Ability to gather, organize and present oral and written information in a clear,
concise and accurate manner.
