Position SummarySan Diego State University’s Facilities Services Department is looking to hire an electrician to work in the Electric Shop.The ideal candidate is professional, understands the importance of working safely and efficiently and is able to work cooperatively with a wide group of stakeholders. The ideal candidate will take responsibility, show initiative, keep accurate accounting of time and materials, seek feedback, be responsive to stakeholders and take appropriate action for the situation. This important position performs work in a manner that supports and facilitates the work of others in Facilities Services and the university community.This position performs the full range of skilled electrical work including the installation, maintenance, inspection, modification, remodel and repair of electrical apparatuses, equipment and systems (transformers, main switchgear, electrical distribution panels, motor control centers, relays, heating and ventilation, etc.). Additionally, this electrician will inspect, isolate, troubleshoot and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments; maintain and repair master clock systems, interior light fixtures (in classrooms, labs, offices, restrooms, corridors, stairwells, etc.) and exterior lighting systems (series street lighting, walkway lighting, etc.); and other work as assigned.For more information regarding the Facilities Services department, click here.This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Standard work hours are Monday – Friday, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.Education and ExperienceA combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a standard electrician’s apprenticeship program. Licenses and Certifications RequiredCalifornia Driver’s License is required.Preferred QualificationsPrior experience in a higher education, commercial, industrial or a large multi-building facility maintenance environment.Completion of journey-level training and apprenticeship; typically 8,000 hours of combined field and classroom instruction, or other equivalent credentialed training.APPA EFP CredentialLEED Green AssociateCalifornia C10 Electrical Contractor’s License or CA General Electrician CertificationCompensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $5,975 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $5,742 - $7,414 per month.
