Position SummarySan Diego State University is looking to hire permanent custodians to perform the full range of custodial duties. The ideal candidate is hard working, pays attention to details, follows directions and works well individually and in a team setting.The duties performed by custodians include cleaning and caring for classrooms, offices, laboratories, restrooms, common areas (hallways, lobbies) and athletic facilities (including locker rooms) in support of the academic mission; cleaning and caring for individual student rooms, offices, study rooms, hallways, restrooms (including showers), trash areas, stairways, elevators and lobby areas in support of residential life.You must be able to perform strenuous physical work while using mechanical aptitude and motor coordination. Custodians are expected to follow all policies and procedures to work safely and efficiently in their assigned stations. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. Available shifts: M – F 3:00 am - 12:00 pm; M – F 6:00pm - 02:30 am.Education and ExperiencePrior experience not required.License/Certification RequiredCalifornia Driver’s License is required.Preferred Qualifications A working knowledge of the common methods, practices, equipment and materials used in custodial work.General knowledge of cleaning chemicals and methods of use.Ability to make repairs to equipment to ensure good operating order.Prior experience in custodial services, maintenance services, or similar environment within the previous three years.Prior experience using custodial floor equipment (carpet extractors, buffers, floor sweepers and restroom equipment) within the previous two years.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $2,912 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,912 - $4,196 per month.
