Job Summary

The Student Buildings Manager is responsible for the use and care of the Student Union and Student Center’s buildings equipment, furnishings, and facilities. This includes oversight of activities, schedules, event set-ups, equipment functions, and general building security. The Student Buildings Manager also supervises student personnel performance and coordinates with other departments, service agencies and community constituents. Requires working nights, weekends, and other times as assigned.

Reporting to the Director of Student Life, the Student Buildings Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of both facilities to include opening and closing of facilities. Works with student groups, events management, facilities management and campus departments to coordinate scheduling of activities in both facilities. Provides campus information to visitors and guests as well as schedule and information regarding events in facilities. Manages onsite facilities and customer problems, conflicts and issues.

Responsibilities
    Inspect and maintain meeting rooms (prior to and at conclusion of all events). Develops and updates buildings’ policies and regulations for use.Identifies and resolves immediate operations’ issues in the buildings. Responsible for safety and security of the facility, furnishings, equipment, guests and employees.Responsible for distributing and maintaining signage.Completes daily audio-visual equipment (PA systems, slide/overhead projectors, LCD projectors, computers, TV/VCR/DVD players, speakers, etc.) set-ups utilized.Able to be flexible and handle different situations with confidence and leadership.Maintains a willingness to assist facility users in any reasonable request, including last-minute changes and audio-visual needs, and coordinates activities with other Managers as well as Custodial and Maintenance staff on duty.Executes emergency procedures (such as building evacuations or medical emergencies).Maintains constant awareness of building users through periodic building walks, unlocks and locks appropriate doors for scheduled activities.Models appropriate behavior, provides leadership and assists in the training and development of student employees (Event Staff/Info Desk Staff/Media Technicians).Creates a friendly atmosphere for students, staff, and visitors, by building positive working relationships.Serve in a public relations capacity for the department and the University.Relays all pertinent information/issues to staff members as appropriate.Is knowledgeable of and adheres to university and departmental policies, procedures, and operations.Manages student employees (Work-Study Students, Event Staff/Info Desk Staff/Media Technicians).
Required Qualifications

High school diploma required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience working with college unions, recreational complex or event venues. Must have supervising experience. Excellent communication and intrapersonal skills and the ability to work with people of all ages and backgrounds. Must be able to adapt to changes, have initiative and a willingness to learn. Must display tactfulness in dealing with students, faculty, staff and public. Basic knowledge of the campus is necessary. Must be available for a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends and may be on call on a rotation basis. In addition must have a working knowledge of Windows, MS Word, PowerPoint, and possess excellent communication skills. Background and/or credit check may be required
