Position Description

The primary functions of the Senior Network Engineer are designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining network components for use within the NTC campus environments.

This position is responsible for ensuring the success of all aspects of initiatives he/she is charged with overseeing, and will interact with other system administrators, software engineers, and consultants to determine project requirements, enhancements and new development initiatives.

As a member of the leader group, the Senior Network Engineer will portray a broad institutional perspective that supports the College's mission, vision, and goals while fostering and creating an environment which strives to anticipate and meet customer needs. College Leaders will support a shared leadership culture through participation in and facilitation of teams. This person is accountable for developing and implementing the means to accomplish the College's goals.

Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Design, install, and maintain district's communication technologies to include Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN).
  • Maintain and control network applications and communication technologies to ensure availability, adequate performance, and take corrective action when needed.
  • Install, manage, and monitor, College Firewall and IDS appliances.
  • Maintain current and accurate network documentation.
  • Monitor and adhere to College wide backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Ensure network security and monitoring best practices are followed to protect the information of the College.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering or closely related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Six years (6) of experience in architecture, installation, and configuration of network systems, wide area networks, and network monitoring and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams without formal authority.
  • Network operating system certification desired (CCIE, CCNA, CCNP, MCSE).
  • Senior level experience with Cisco switching, firewalls, wireless, routing protocols including EIGRP and BGP, and other Cisco family products such as ISE and DNA.
  • Experience with VMware products including NSX desired, certification is a plus.
  • Experience with advanced network monitoring and diagnostic tools such as SolarWinds Orion.
  • Experience troubleshooting VoIP and video conferencing systems in an enterprise organization.
  • Ability to analyze and present data and information, orally and in writing and in non-technical language is required.
  • Must possess strong communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to obtain driver’s license and insurance coverage for business travel as required.

  • Physical Demands

    Working Activity:
    6 to 8 hours: Performing repetitive movements and working indoors
    4 to 5 hours: Grasping
    1 to 3 hours: Balancing, bending, climbing, crawling, driving, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, sitting, standing, twisting, walking, working at heights and working in temperature extremes
    Less than 1 hour: Working outdoors

    Lifting and Carrying:
    Less than 10 pounds: 15 or more repetitions per hour
    10 to 20 pounds: 15 or more repetitions per hour
    20-50 pounds: 15 or more repetitions per hour
    50-100 pounds: Less than 1 repetition per hour
    More than 100 pounds with help: Less than 1 repetition per hour

    Additional Physical Requirements:
    Vision: Adequate with aid to read instructions, labels, documents, computer screens, and differentiate between colors.

    Hearing: Adequate with aid to understand oral requests, telephone conversation, and PA systems.

    Required Employee Program Safety Training:
    Emergency action plan, emergency procedures, ergonomics (office/workplace) and slips, trips and falls
