America Reads/America Counts (ARAC) is a partnership between Student Employment and surrounding school districts in four counties. ARAC has been a part of UWG’s Federal Work-Study program since the 1997-1998 academic year.
All positions are during school hours, approximately 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday. You must be able to work during these times, preferably 12 to 20 hours per week.
In the elementary school positions, UWG student employees will assist kindergarten through fifth grade who need extra help with their math and/or reading skills. You will work in the classroom with the teacher. Our County and City school partners are:
-Ithica Elementary- reading
-Central High School- math
-Carrollton Upper Elementary- reading/ math
-Sharp Creek Elementary- readingRequired Qualifications
- Currently have and maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA
- Have reliable transportation to get to the the job
- Availability to work during 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday for a total of 10 to 20 hours per week (2-3 consistent days per week).
- Pass a background check
- Eligible for Federal Work Study (FWS).

Must be a current University of West Georgia student enrolled for six credit hours and maintaining at least a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average unless otherwise noted/indicated by the hiring department.
