Primary Function of Organizational Unit:

It is the mission of the Department of Pediatrics, East Carolina University Brody School of Medicine, to provide exemplary medical education/training of physicians in pediatric medicine at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Additionally, it is the mission of the department to provide model comprehensive primary and consultative subspecialty care to children of eastern North Carolina, to advance scientific knowledge through basic and clinical research, and to provide continuing medical education opportunities for physicians in the region.

Job Duties :

A Registered Nurse is needed to work in the pediatric specialty clinical areas. This is a temporary, intermittent vacancy. The selected candidate will assist in the direct patient care and case management for the pediatric specialty patients. Independent nursing care will be expected, including administration of medications, phlebotomy, and IV therapy. The individual in this position will perform a variety of tasks with some detail, requiring general understanding and skill in the application of work procedures. The primary responsibility of this position is to ensure that patient needs are met efficiently and effectively. The selected candidate will interact with residents, medical students, nursing students, and other learners on a daily basis to teach procedures and concepts that relate to nursing practice. Strong oral and written communication skills is essential. Currently, hours of clinic operation are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a flexible scheduled late day to accommodate patient care, Monday through Friday.

The ECU Brody School of Medicine is affiliated with Vidant Medical Center. Vidant Medical Center is the flagship hospital for Vidant Health and serves as the teaching hospital for the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.

Minimum Education/Experience:

Graduation from state-accredited school of registered nursing and two years of nursing experience, with at least one year in the assigned specialty area. Must have a current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the North Carolina Board of Nursing. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education:

Prefer two years of pediatric nursing experience

License or Certification Required by the Department:
