Job Description Summary:
The Lab Assistant works closely with Science Faculty in the preparation of materials for classroom laboratories. This position is in charge of managing and organizing all of the lab's records and other documents. Lab Assistants stay updated on lab policies, safety regulations and other procedures to keep all experiments safe and compliant. However, more importantly, Lab Assistants work in a collaborative environment that focuses on the education of our students.

Start date is August 2021.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist instructors in the preparation of materials for classroom laboratories.
  • Take inventory of supplies and dissectible specimens.
  • Return labs to clean/ready state following classes.
  • Maintain MSDS forms for all chemicals and other hazardous materials.
  • Maintain and monitor storage and disposal of hazardous chemicals and waste.
  • Assemble supplies and equipment needed for assigned lab sections.
  • Communicate consistent and timely information with tact and diplomacy.
  • Exchange ideas and maintain communication with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Work flexible hours.
  • Be able to complete duties by planning and organizing work in a timely fashion and meet deadlines while working in a fast-paced, demanding environment that requires a high degree of multi-tasking with minimal supervision.
  • Perform specialized clerical and technical duties related to assigned area.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Minimum of Associate’s Degree in subject from an accredited college or university
    • Any combination or equivalent of degree requirement, and or three (3) years of related experience.


    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Bachelor of Science in a Laboratory Science or an AAS in Biotechnology or Chemical Technology
    • Knowledge of:
    o Laboratory policies, procedures and equipment.
    o Familiarity of OSHA regulations and procedures.
    o Basic computer skills.
    o Oral and written communication skills.
    o College organization, operations, policies and objectives.
    o Applicable sections of state and federal laws and codes.
    o Technical aspects in field of specialty
