Department Information The Department of English at Kennesaw State University is committed to excellent teaching, scholarship, and service to the university and the community. With a diverse faculty engaged in a variety of research approaches, the department models and promotes scholarship that honors humanistic traditions while making a range of contributions to university and civic life.
With more than 400 full-time faculty and 7000 degree-seeking students, the Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the largest college at the university, prepares the next generation of leaders in a wide array of fields to meet the challenges of the twenty-first century and become contributing citizens in a global society. The home of three Schools and eight Departments, the College offers more than 80 graduate and undergraduate programs of study in both traditional and interdisciplinary fields. RCHSS provides students experiential learning opportunities to enable them to develop leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, as well as a strong sense of social responsibility through community and global engagement.
The Radow College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Department of English promote diversity and inclusiveness among our students, faculty, staff, and public. Job Summary Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for a pool of open rank, part-time faculty positions in the Department of English. Rank is determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with experience. Responsibilities - Area of specialization in EnglishTeaching sections of Composition I (English 1101), Composition II (English 1102), and occasionally, 2000-level, general education literature courses Teaching in face-to-face, online, and hybrid formatsTeaching schedules on MWF, MW, and TRTeaching on Kennesaw and/or Marietta campuses
- Student teaching/clinical supervisionAdvisingWorking with a diverse community
Applicants must have, at minimum, a Master of Arts degree in English (or a closely related field with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in English) or its foreign equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications Ideal candidates will also have some of the following:- Academic coursework in Rhetoric and Composition, and/or academic coursework in composition pedagogyExperience teaching college composition and/or tutoring in college writing centersExperience teaching in face-to-face, hybrid, and online formatsA Ph.D. is highly recommendedLicenses, certifications, or professional membershipsSpecific experiences or skills (e.g., prior teaching, familiarity with specific techniques)Evidence of teaching and working with a culturally and an ethnically diverse communityExperience teaching on-line or hybrid coursesRecord of past teaching at a particular level (e.g., graduate vs. undergraduate) or area (sub-discipline)Post-doc experience

The university has committed itself to expanding the global experience of students, faculty and staff through its Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP), known as the "Global Learning for Engaged Citizenship" initiative, which began in 2007. This program focuses on increasing opportunities for international learning experiences. In spring 2009, KSU awarded its first Global Engagement Certification to graduate and undergraduate students. This certification recognizes students’ achievements in learning global perspectives and developing intercultural skills.
As a destination campus, KSU offers students plenty of opportunities to experience campus life by participating in more than 150 student groups and organizations, including student government, sororities and fraternities, club and intramural sports, social and special-interest organizations, student publications and honor societies.
In 2009, the Kennesaw State Owls completed a reclassification from NCAA Division II to NCAA Division I, competing in the Atlantic Sun Conference. During the transition from 2005-2009, KSU teams have won six Atlantic Sun Conference tournaments in five sports, including men’s indoor and outdoor track, women’s soccer, softball and cross-country.

Kennesaw State was originally established by the University System of Georgia as Kennesaw Junior College serving 1,000 students. The college became a four-year institution in 1976 and was named Kennesaw College in 1977. In 1988, on its 25th anniversary, it was named Kennesaw State College and in 1996 became Kennesaw State University.
