Position Description:
Reporting directly to the Unified Access Services Manager for Arts, Powell and Music Libraries (UAS-AMP), the Access Services Lead, Powell Library is responsible for the effective functioning of the Powell Library Access Services desks and provision of library services to the UCLA academic community at large. The Access Services Lead is responsible for oversight and management of all access services functions in Powell Library, including: public service desk operations, circulation services, supervision of 3.0 full time staff, budget management, communication and outreach, and programming and marketing assistance for Powell Library projects. The Access Services Lead provides leadership, mentoring, professional development support and vision for the Powell Access Services team, sets priorities, and articulates goals; improves workflows and recommends improvements to services to meet current and emerging needs of library patrons. Maintains an innovative approach to assessing current workflows and researching, testing and recommending new workflows and services as needed and appropriate. Works closely with other Access Services staff in the UCLA Library to create, implement, maintain and improve policies, procedures and best practices for workflows across the UCLA Library system. Works with Unified Access Services Colleagues, Community Services Officers and UCPD to report and resolve safety and security issues in the libraries.

Powell Library has more than 125,000 books that serve the diverse library needs of UCLA's 30,000 undergraduates, their faculty, and other library patrons and visitors. Powell Library's staffing includes 6 FTE librarians, 6 FTE staff members, and about 16 FTE student assistants. The Access Services Department provides information about the UCLA Library's services and collections, services for circulation, reserves, stacks maintenance and retrieval, billing, telephone information, and building and mailroom operations. Access Services also provides support for a wide range of outreach events such as the Powell Library Concert Series, Undergraduate Research Week, author readings, 24-hour service during tenth and finals weeks, and Stressbusters activities. Powell Library Access Services section is one of the busiest public service units within the UCLA Library with an annual turnstile count close to 1.5 million users, 100,000 circulation transactions year, 35,000 information and reference questions answered each year, and 100,000 items shelved each year. The department is part of a larger Unified Access Services organization working together to provide service to 8 libraries on the UCLA campus.

In 15 of the 16 medical specialty areas examined, UCLA Medical Center ranked in the top 20.
