Penn State Harrisburg, a comprehensive College of The Pennsylvania State University, is excited to welcome applications and nominations for the position of Director of Counseling and Disability Resources.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Student Services, The Director of Counseling and Disability Resources will provide mental health services to students and will supervise the operations of Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) as well as Student Disability Resources (SDR).Counseling & Disability Resources (CDR), a unit of Student Affairs, is committed to the holistic growth of our students.Inclusion, diversity, and equity are the cornerstones of the mission and goals of Penn State Harrisburg Student Affairs.
The successful candidate will provide direct clinical services, including individual and group counseling and crisis intervention to Harrisburg students. The Director will exhibit Unit leadership through clinical meetings with CAPS and SDR staff as well as staff meetings with all Unit members. The Director coordinates the hiring and evaluation process for CAPS and SDR staff. The Director will also provide leadership by working with staff to establish services, priorities, procedures, and programs to best meet the needs of our students. In addition, the Director has primary responsibility for CDR operations and serves as the budget administrator for CAPS, as administrative supervisor for CDR staff, and as a primary point of contact for campus constituencies and family members who seek consultation. The Director is a member of the Leadership Team for Student Affairs. The Director will serve on campus committees such as Behavioral Threat Management Team and Emergency Management Team and will keep open communication with the Commonwealth Campus liaison at Penn State University Park CAPS.
The current CDR team is an experienced group of professionals who work together to provide services for our students and to educate our campus about mental health and disabilities. The campus administration takes seriously the importance of provision of services to students seeking counseling and assistance for disabilities. Typical requirements of this role include 8 or more years of experience in a related field, completion of a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Clinical or Counseling Psychology (or related mental health field) or the equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must be a Licensed Psychologist in Pennsylvania or eligible to obtain licensure as a mental health practitioner within one year of the date of hire. This position requires the following clearances:
- PA State Police Criminal Background Check
- PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form
- Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check
Preferred qualifications include a background in a college counseling center setting including experience in management/supervisory roles, familiarity with the clinical, legal and ethical aspects of treating college students, experience with diverse populations, and crisis management response skills. Preference will also be given to candidates with excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively with counseling staff and campus partners.
