Position Overview:

Teaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook.

Position Overview:

Visiting faculty are employed by the university to teach or perform research for a limited time. This is a non-tenure track, temporary position. Service or research may be expected. The instructor is expected to deliver an educational experience to students consistent with the mission, policies and procedures of the college.

College/Department Overview:

The College of Education and Professional Studies currently has 100 full-time and over 100 part-time faculty organized in seven departments. The college offers 23 undergraduate majors and 28 graduate majors. All teacher education programs are CAEP accredited. Other programs are recognized at the state and national levels with accreditations by the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), the American Dietetic Association (ADA), the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA), the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the National Council on Family Relations (NCFR), and the Oklahoma Educational Quality and Accountability Commission (OEQA). The Department of Kinesiology and Health Studies has 23 full-time faculty in 4 undergraduate and 2 graduate programs – Physical Education, Exercise Fitness Management, Outdoor Community Recreation, Public Health, Athletic Training Education and Wellness Management.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions:

The Kinesiology and Health Studies Department is seeking a quality instructor to serve our students in the exercise fitness management program. A Master's degree or Doctorate in the area of Kinesiology or related discipline. Courses possible Exercise Prescription, Physical Activity and Health and other courses as needed.


Experience Required:

An earned Doctorate awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval). Candidates with a master's degree will be considered at the Instructor rank. Expertise in D2L or other online platform. Possesses excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Experience Preferred:

Higher Education teaching experience preferred.


Excellence in teaching and demonstrated potential to publish high quality scholarly research. Previous teaching experience in higher education environment at level of teaching assistant or higher is required. Candidate must provide evidence of teaching effectiveness/excellence. Expertise in Leadership. Oral and written communication skills.
