POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT

 

The Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, (UTK) invites applications and nominations for a Student Services Specialist II. We are seeking candidates who can contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University.

The Enrollment Management (EM) division comprises more than 150 full-time staff who serve our students through the following departments and functions: Undergraduate Admissions, International Recruitment, Transfer Center, One Stop Student Services, Financial Aid & Scholarships, University Registrar, Enrollment Management Communications, Enrollment Management Research & Analytics and Enrollment Management Operations.

Functions and Responsibilities:

Direct coordination of verification document review for the Office of Financial Aid & Scholoarships. Responsible for coordinating input, auditing and verification of financial statements submitted through the application process for all aid programs. Monitors the readiness of appeal documents for the committee review (including Satisfactory Academic Progress, Special Circumstance, and Dependency Appeals). Advises students and/or parents of outstanding requirements and if additional information is necessary to complete and expedite the evaluation and awarding process. Provides training and support regarding the verification program to One Stop and other campus partners.
 



Qualifications
Required Education and Experience:
Associates Degree or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience:
2-4 years progressively responsible financial aid or tax experience and Ellucian Banner experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Excellent oral and communication skills. Ability to write clear, concise letters using effectual writing skills. Sensitive to cultural diversity and ability to communicate and interact with people of all ages and diverse backgrounds. Proven ability to work effectively as a team member. Ability to analyze and interpret data and make independent decisions. Ability to work independently and under time constraints. Knowledge of MS Office products or similar.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations and governmental agency guidelines including but not limited to the IRS, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Homeland Security, Social Security Administration and INS to analyze applications and data sent to the university from prospective and current students.
