Position Highlights:

The purpose of this position is to assist in the operation of the University’s athletics communication services operations, both internally and externally. The successful candidate will produce journalistic materials for information dissemination, prepare and edit public information through various news media, publications, social media and Internet strategies, and manage media-related services at athletics events. Applicants should have proven ability to work independently and in concert with colleagues and numerous publics. The successful candidate will be highly motivated, positive in demeanor, and be able to manage a demanding work schedule that includes nights, weekends and holidays, including travel with teams in a communication services capacity.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Handle daily communication and media-services responsibilities for the UA’s football program, working directly with coaches and student-athletes to produce positive coverage
  • Work with the communication services director and other full-time and student staff in year-round service of a 21-sport athletics department and its information and media constituencies
  • Work with local, regional and national media to provide information services
    Use creative, innovative approach to generate positive promotion of sport programs
  • Work with coaching staffs and department promo team to create publicity plans to reach various audiences through social media and website
  • Utilize advanced photo editing skills for graphical use on website, social media and in publications
  • Coordinate with video department to schedule and produce multimedia materials
  • Maintain archival and records systems
  • Write and edit daily, weekly and annual releases, feature stories and publications
  • Develop ideas, write and post material to Arizona’s official website, arizonawildcats.com
  • Staff events in media-services capacity, while coordinating duties of support staff
  • Operate computers in word processing, desktop publishing, statistical software and Internet applications
  • Respond to written and phone queries from media and others by providing materials, statistics, photos, and allied information
  • Assist or direct media operations at league and National Championship events hosted by the University
  • Must have a working knowledge of Stat Crew and its various programs
  • File game reports/statistical summaries to specific or requested news outlets, conference and NCAA offices
  • Assist in daily management of communication services office as assigned by director
  • Help the director maintain compliance with ICA, University, Pac-12 Conference and NCAA guidelines and policies
  • Make decisions which impact the public relations image of the Athletics department and the University
  • Help the director make decisions which affect the annual budget of the communication services office
  • Perform all pertinent duties defined by job description and any other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director or designee
  • Assist the Director with direct oversight of student intern who acts as the office’s primary contact for Arizona’s Gymnastics program
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Knowledge of NCAA, Pac-12, and University of Arizona rules and compliance as they pertain to publicity and promotional efforts
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability to plan, establish priorities and successfully manage multiple priority projects
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive interpersonal relations
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise sound judgment to handle sensitive and confidential information/material with discretion
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels, and project a positive, professional attitude

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Three years of experience in athletic communications/media relations at a NCAA institution or professional team, or professional media/public relations experience outside of sports
  • Must be available to work a flexible schedule including nights and weekends

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a primary or secondary contact for a NCAA Division I football program
  • Previous experience with SIDEARM Sports content management, and/or HTML
  • Previous experience with Photoshop, InDesign and other desktop publishing programs
