Post-Doctoral Fellow

This is a postdoctoral researcher position in the Hydrologic, Environmental, and Sustainability Engineering program in Civil Engineering.  This postdoc will be working with Dr. Allison Goodwell on a NASA-funded project focused on leveraging flux tower evapotranspiration estimates, which capture fluxes from different upwind contributing areas, to better validate high resolution satellite-based evapotranspiration products.  The project will involve the use of information theory-based methods, flux footprint modeling, and evapotranspiration models to unravel influences of landscape heterogeneity on measured and modeled fluxes of water and energy in agricultural regions.  The postdoctoral researcher will also interface with the NSF-funded Critical Zone Interface Network (CINet) project, a multi-institutional and multi-disciplinary collaboration focused on transformations and transport of water, energy, heat, and material transport within intensively managed agricultural ecosystems. 

Primary responsibilities will be collaborating on research, including writing papers and proposals, and secondary responsibilities will include mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers, and helping develop course material that integrates project findings towards courses in computational methods, climate and sustainability, and complex systems at CU Denver.  The (flexible) start date for this position is Fall 2021.  The position is for 1 year, with possible renewal based on funding availability.  The position will be based at CU Denver, although remote work is negotiable.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary range for this position has been established at $55,000 to $60,000. 

The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training.

The above salary range represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. Qualifications
Minimum Requirements

  •  PhD in a relevant field (Civil Engineering, Hydrology, Earth Sciences, or similar) by the agreed upon start date
Desired or preferred qualifications:

  • Evidence of research skills through publications and presentations
  • Excellent communication and writing skills
  • Proven ability to work independently within a research lab
  • Strong computational and analytical skills
  • Experience working with large geospatial datasets
  • Skills in statistical analysis, numerical modeling, information theory and/or machine learning
