Temporary Field/Lab/Greenhouse Assistant
TemporaryEssential Job Duties:
Summer research assistants will be involved with research focused on weed management strategies in vegetable and small fruit cropping systems. Areas of research include exploring diversified strategies such as cover crops, variety selection, crop and weed competition, herbicide efficacy and crop tolerance. The research contributes to sustainable agriculture and other innovative developments in weed science and crop protection.
Responsibilities of the summer research assistant are to help graduate students initiate and complete their research trials. This includes planting and harvesting the crop, laying out the research trials, collecting data (and learning to analyze and interpret the student’s own data from his/her trial), utilizing special equipment such as planters and graders, and maintaining the field plots. Some greenhouse and lab work may take place depending on the nature of the projects in place.

-Horticulture, Crop and Soil Science, Agroecology, Plant Biology, other plant science-related or agriculture major
-Must be willing to perform strenuous manual labor
-Work in a variety of weather conditions
-Ability to work as part of a team
