Middle College Graduate Assistant 21-22

Job description

Requisition Number:

GA00254

Position Title:

Middle College Graduate Assistant 21-22

Position Eclass:

GF - Graduate Flat Pay

Position Summary:

The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student’s field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

Additional Details:

“Pathways” is our name for a series of UNCG courses taken yearly by high school/UNCG students attending the Middle College at UNCG, designed to teach strategies for success in college, career, and life. The curriculum covers such topics as professionalism/workplace etiquette, preparing for college, career exploration (especially related to health & medical careers), identity development, and financial literacy. COVID-19 conditions permitting, Pathways courses also include guest speakers, field trips, and individual job shadowing/internship experiences, which are coordinated by the Middle College Liaison.

Instructors will be responsible for delivering Pathways course content to Middle College at UNCG students (high school Sophomores/Seniors in fall; Freshmen/Juniors in spring). The curriculum is available electronically, and Instructors work together and with the Middle College Liaison to design and assess assignments and class activities. Courses may be offered on campus or online, depending on COVID-19-related procedures.

In addition, Instructors may accompany students to and from Pathways field trips, job shadowing, and internships (once per week, except seniors twice per week). Transportation is provided via Guilford County school buses. Some Instructors may also help supervise students during Health/PE courses taught by other UNCG Instructors.

Position and application details:
●Multiple graduate student hourly positions are available for Fall 2021, with renewal available for Spring 2022 and beyond based on performance and staffing needs.
●12.5-15 hours per week, pay rate $13.50 per hour, no tuition reimbursement.
●Must be available to work: early August through early December 2021 (**working calendar matches the Middle College calendar, not necessarily UNCG’s).

Possible additional meetings and collaborative planning totaling no more than 15 hours per week. Some positions may be available working only 4 days per week (9-10 hours).
●If necessary due to COVID-19, Pathways may instead be offered in an online or hybrid manner. In this case, positions will still be available for the same number of weekly hours, with more flexibility in days/times possible.
