Position Summary:

This position is on site at our Cullowhee campus.

This position is responsible for Graduate Student records from initial contact until degree is conferred. The incumbent will be required to become knowledgeable regarding the policies and procedures of the Graduate School. Position requires strict attention to detail and independent decision making regarding admission of applicants based upon their credentials and department/program procedures. Position must be able to interpret policy on which to base decisions on an individual case by case basis. It is directly responsible for all applicant materials received with considerable care needed because these materials are irreplaceable and confidential. It ensures all documents received are viewed by accountable representatives of Western Carolina University on a need to know basis.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position:

Thorough knowledge of Graduate School policies/procedures; thorough knowledge of admissions requirements for each graduate program and familiar with requirements for each program structure; must be client and service oriented; must be a self-directed problem solver able to deal effectively and professionally with prospective and enrolled students, faculty, administrators, and staff; must be able to prioritize work; work with minimal supervision; must posses strong organizational skills; must posses strong written and oral communication skills. Extensive knowledge of Banner, Excel, Word, and Outlook programs is preferred. Editing/proofreading skills are required to ensure graduating students names and thesis or dissertation titles are correct in commencement bulletin. Must have the ability to multi-task to complete the demands of the position; must have strong attention to detail; must have the ability to work according to stringent deadlines during peak times of the year; must be punctual and possess a Can Do attitude; must have ability to deal with problems effectively and pleasantly with constituents requiring a high level of service from the Graduate School.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with a college bachelor’s degree

Anticipated Hiring Range:

$31,200 - $33,000
