Departmental Overview

The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking a Special Assistant to the Head Coach for our Women's Basketball program.


The Special Assistant to the Head Coach will aid and facilitate the operation of the Women's Basketball program and serve as an advisor to the Head Coach. This position will have an advisory role in all basketball strategy and analysis, through the regular breakdown of team and opponent game film, development of analytic reports, and assist with game planning. This position will support the academics and student services aspects of the program, serving as the liaison to the Athletic Study Center and Compliance offices. The position will play a role in recruiting, assisting with all on-campus recruiting trips, and coordinating the travel plans of the Head Coach for all recruiting activities. Overall, this position will help support the overall operations of the program and ensure it promotes the holistic well-being and development of the student-athletes.
  • Work with the coaching staff during to plan, create, and implement practice and game plans for the team, including scouting opponents based on game footage.
  • Develops analytic reports and shares them with coaching staff based on review of team and opponent film.
  • Serve as a “go-to” and liaison between the coaches and campus/department staff as it relates to the holistic development of the student-athletes, particularly working with the Compliance and Athletic Study Center offices.
  • Coordinate with respective departments to assist student-athletes with recruitment process, admissions, scheduling classes, financial aid, summer bridge/Golden Bear Orientation programs, housing, etc.
  • Assist with the coordination and logistics of all on-Campus recruiting activities (official and un-official visits), including management of all travel arrangements.
  • Coordinate the non-conference game scheduling each year. Will discuss possible opponents with Head Coach, reach out to various teams to gauge interest, work with department staff to schedule games, etc.
  • Establish and maintain effective interactions with the university community, alumni, donors, media and the public. May be asked to engage in development activities, including but not limited to fundraisers, donor meetings, etc.
  • Serve as an advisor to the Head Coach and ensure the program is running optimally.
  • Help foster an environment that promotes the well-being and personal development of the student-athletes.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent training/experience.
  • In depth knowledge and understanding of managing a Division 1 Basketball program.
  • Experience making complicated travel arrangements for teams or large groups.
  • Knowledge and experience using Word, Excel, and Google Applications.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to handle a high-paced environment and work efficiently within it, including dealing with competing demands and prioritizing appropriately.
  • Must be detail oriented and extremely organized.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • In depth knowledge of applicable NCAA rules and regulations, particularly around recruitment and eligibility.
  • Previous experience working in team operations in the college or professional sports field.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of University and Department policies.
