Position Summary:
Works closely with the head men's and women's nordic ski coach in all aspects of the nordic ski program. As the primary assistant coach, has significant technical coaching and waxing responsibility, mentoring student-athletes, and recruiting qualified student-athletes within Middlebury College, NESCAC and NCAA rules. As the assistant coach of two teams, will also need to function independently with either gender if the team is split for practices or races.


Essential Functions:
Assists head coach in all aspects of the nordic ski program including but not limited to coaching, recruiting, scheduling, and program administration.


General Responsibilities:
  • May teach as an Instructor in the Physical Education program.
  • Assist as needed with Event Management in the fall and spring seasons
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.


Qualifications
Education:

Bachelor’s degree required.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of Nordic skiing techniques and the ability to effectively communicate these to student-athletes.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with ski waxing.
  • Applicants must possess proven, excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a diverse community of faculty, staff, students and prospective students and their families.
  • The ability to work in a collaborative team environment with student-athletes, coaches, administrators.
  • Working knowledge of NESCAC and NCAA rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them.
  • Administrative skills such as organization and prioritization.
  • Current CPR, AED and First Aid certification must be maintained.
  • Strength and Conditioning certification or willingness to obtain is preferred.


Experience:
Demonstrated effectiveness in coaching skiing is required. Coaching experience at the collegiate or national team level is preferred.


Physical Demands:
  • Must be able to work outside for long hours in cold conditions.
  • Must be able to drive a van in winter conditions.

The Bread Loaf School of English is in session each summer not only in Middlebury but also at Lincoln College, Oxford, in the United Kingdom; at St. John's College in Santa Fe, New Mexico; and at the University of North Carolina at Asheville.

There is also an overseas dimension to Middlebury College. The C.V.
