Job Summary
Georgia Southern University seeks a full-time Director of the Faculty Center with expertise in one or more of the following: a) faculty professional development across all levels of faculty career paths; b) active, experiential and applied learning in the areas of scholarship of teaching and learning; and c) online education using best practices and creative technologies. The Director will identify and lead a team to design innovative and relevant professional development programs including but not limited to topic specific targeted forums, short-non-credit courses, college-wide workshops and events or individualized instruction on enhancing scholarship/research capabilities, course design, and active and collaborative learning strategies. In addition, the candidate must show a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. The Director will promote and encourage faculty participation in national conversations and conferences, guide and encourage the use of innovative and appropriate scholarships/research, encourage strong pedagogy and public impact engagements. The Director will convene faculty teams to advance creative and innovative professional development opportunities, apply for external funding to support these programs and support faculty proposals related to such activities.


  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Provide engaged, strategic and energetic leadership in building the new Faculty Center with strong management and direction, accountability metrics and integration with the institutional strategic plan
  • Work within the center and across the campuses to design, facilitate and promote faculty workshops (virtual and in person) on topics relevant to expanding scholarship/research abilities, enhancing collaborative efforts in scholarship/research proposal and manuscript development, teaching and learning excellence and faculty and student success to include annual faculty programs such as the professional development day, new faculty orientation, faculty retreats, etc
  • Collaborate with Faculty Center leadership and other university partners to direct and manage workshops on evidence-based practices to inform teaching and learning efforts within and across learning modalities and formats
  • Serve as a campus expert on current and innovative faculty development trends, especially best practices that lead to faculty and student success across the university
  • Collaborate as appropriate across the campus to deliver programs and services with consistent infusion of equity and inclusion teaching practices
  • Consistently engage in evaluation and communication activities that address the impact of the Faculty Center and faculty success on institutional goals to include scholarship, teaching and online course/program development
  • Supervise and evaluate the work of associate faculty center directors and administrative assistants to provide a selection of service and activities that aid faculty teaching and scholarship/research across the university
  • Write grant proposals and seek extramural funding as needed to support and grow Faculty Center Programming

Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited university in a field with relevance to the stated skill set

Required Experience
  • Two years of teaching experience in a college or university setting
  • Five years of professional experience in a faculty center or similar setting

Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Educational Qualifications
  • Ph.D. from an accredited university

Preferred Experience
  • Five years of experience as a full-time faculty member within a higher education institution

Proposed Salary
$62,100 - $78,700

  • Demonstrated understanding of and collaboration with a Center for Teaching Excellence and/or Online Education to support instructional methodologies, effective assessment practices, and approaches for design across modalities (online, hybrid, face-to-face)
  • Knowledge of faculty development and the range of programs in the field of professional development
  • Conversant with the literature on faculty success
  • Understanding of social justice pedagogy, culturally-responsive pedagogy, cultural humility, institutional bias, reducing equity gaps, implicit bias, and intersectional theory in higher education

  • Demonstrate commitment to inclusiveness by working well with diverse populations
  • Use effective communication and human relations skills
  • Proven proficiency with computers including Microsoft Office, Google, and/or applications as required for specific position
  • Demonstrate appropriate organizational skills as required for specific position
  • Demonstrated collaboration with an Office of Research to aid in developing faculty writing, proposal and manuscript skills
  • Demonstrated experience promoting diversity, equity, inclusion, and sense of belonging in higher education
  • Outstanding interpersonal, oral, written, consultation, and communication skills
  • Experience in supervision of personnel and budget management
  • Skill in quantitative and qualitative data analysis and reporting
  • Demonstrated record of scholarship in an area of professional development
  • Demonstrated record of securing extramural funding
  • Proficiency in developing interactive online learning environment programs for faculty development
