Medical Laboratory Supervisor- Student Health Center 

Seeking a full-time Medical Laboratory Supervisor.

Job Description:

Supervises general medical diagnostic moderate complexity laboratory staff and performs clinical laboratory procedures requiring proficiency and skill in medical laboratory techniques.

 Obtain and process specimens from patients using universal precautions; Perform general clinical lab procedures in such areas as hematology, bacteriology, serology, parasitology, and urinalysis.

Supervise clinical laboratory and ensure it operates in accordance with State and Federal licensing regulations; Perform and oversee procedures in quality control as deemed necessary in the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act; Develop and maintain laboratory policy and procedure manual; Maintain inventory of required laboratory supplies; Prepare and maintain lab statistics and documentation; Assure proper calibration/maintenance of laboratory equipment.

Recruit, screen, interview, and make hiring recommendations for laboratory staff; Perform employee performance evaluations for laboratory staff; Oversee performance and technical competency of laboratory staff; Promote continuing education for the ancillary staff.

Serve as member of Student Health Center governing body in accordance with accreditation standards;Participate in standing committees within the Student Health Center including quality improvement, infection control, risk management, and technology; Participate in continuing education for professional growth and competency.

 

 



Qualifications
Requirements: 

 Must have 15 years as a Medical Technologist – Generalist or Medical Laboratory Technician - Generalist.  Must have the abilities and experience to supervise the day-to-day operation of a clinical diagnostic laboratory and to perform CLIA waived and Moderate or High Complexity laboratory diagnostic procedures.  Must have computer skills for working with laboratory information systems and electronic health records systems. Must have a minimum of a certificate or technical training as a Medical Laboratory Technician - Generalist or Medical Laboratory Technologist – Generalist with a State of Tennessee license.  Preference given to those who have a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology and previous experience of serving in a supervisory role in a medical laboratory setting.

Knowledge, skill, and ability to perform specimen collection for designated patients for all means of test dealing with hematology, bacteriology, etc.; Knowledge, skill, and ability to develop/maintain laboratory policies and procedures; Knowledge to effectively ensure proficiency and competency of laboratory staff; Knowledge and skill to ensure laboratory meets state/federal regulations.
