Job Summary: The Student Life Assistant Director I provides oversight and planning for the development, implementation, and delivery of one or more programs, services, or activities within a department. May supervise professional staff. Part of the Student Life Career Progression Plan.

Additional Department Summary: The Assistant Director, University Programs serves as the primary advisor of the University Programs student-led programming board, which plans and implements large-scale, collaborative campus events.

Administration: Represent the Director when necessary. Assist in administrative projects including developing strategic plans and goals, policies and procedures, staff development, and assessment and evaluation plans for the office.

Event Planning and Oversight: Provide professional presence and oversight at events. Provide oversight to plan, execute, and host events for University Programs during early morning, late night and weekend programming signature initiatives campus wide. Coordinate with vendors, on-campus partners, and other stakeholders to execute event needs. Work with students and staff on the comprehensive event planning process, including: organization management, risk management, financial and marketing plans, best practices research, and other logistical details of programming and event planning.

Marketing and Public Relations: Provide oversight for marketing, advertising, and social media plans for a comprehensive calendar of events, including Weeks of Welcome, regular late-night programming, and other special departmental, divisional, or University-wide events.

Assessment and Outreach: Utilize assessment and evaluation plans to improve event planning, staff development, and student training.

Student Staff Development: Recruit, select and train qualified student staff and volunteer student staff members to plan, execute, host, and market events for University Programs.

Fiscal Responsibility: Has personal accountability for financial reporting and responsibility for establishing, enforcing, and following internal processes and controls as outlined in UA policies and procedures.

Training Compliance: Training Compliance: Responsible for completing required training and promoting a safe, hospitable, and respectful workplace. Responsible for holding staff accountable for completion of required training.

Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience; OR Master's degree and one (1) year of experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must be able to work early mornings and frequent nights and weekends.

Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier.

Skills and Knowledge: Ability to be flexible with work schedule. Excellent written and oral communications skills along with strong interpersonal skills. Organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Knowledge of student development and the ability to work with a diverse population of students and staff while fostering an inclusive environment. Skills in marketing and advertising campaign development and/or management, event planning, and staff management. Demonstrated knowledge and ability in budget development and monitoring. Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve problems effectively and independently.

Demonstrated commitment to expand multicultural knowledge, awareness, and skills as evidenced through: demonstrating self awareness; understanding and valuing others; demonstrating knowledge of social inequalities; interacting effectively with a diversity of people; fostering equity and inclusion.

Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree in higher education, communication, marketing or public relations, leadership, hospitality management, or a related field, and three (3) years of professional experience in student programming, activities, leadership, or development. Experience working within a higher education (university or college) environment.

Graduate or professional experience in student programming, advising, marketing, graphic design, communication, organizational leadership experience.
