Overview

One of Boston University’s premier schools located in the heart of the city, the BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) has more than 100 years of social work education history, a dynamic faculty leading innovative research on pressing social justice issues, and graduate students engaged in programs across five residential campuses and online. Our mission is to develop dynamic and diverse social work practitioners, leaders, and scholars through rigorous teaching, innovative research, and transformative community engagement.

BUSSW is home to two vibrant centers, The Center for Innovation in Social Work and Health (CISWH) and The Network for Professional Education (The Network). CISWH promotes social work leadership in health through transdisciplinary, cross-sector collaboration with public health, medicine, health economics, technology, and other relevant disciplines. The Center aspires to be the national and global leader in elevating social work leadership and cross-sector collaboration to promote health, health equity, and social justice. The Network for Professional Education is an innovative, new entity that will function as a nexus to connect BUSSW alumni, faculty and external agencies, and provide high-quality, innovative tools and training to health and social services professionals and organizations.

Position

BUSSW is looking for a creative, tech-savvy digital communications strategist to develop and implement comprehensive promotional plans for CISWH, and support specific content marketing activities for The Network.

For CISWH, you will promote and strengthen the visibility and reputation of the Center through a rich content-driven strategy, creatively positioning the strongest attributes to our key audiences locally and globally.

As the manager of the website and social media channels for both CISWH and The Network, you’ll develop/optimize content according to SEO best practices, utilize dashboards in Google Analytics for at-a-glance reporting, and create/implement social media strategy, content and analytics.

CISWH’s reputation and impact will grow through your promotion of strategic virtual and in-person events including the Health Equity Speaker Series (fall/spring), sponsored and affiliated events; and strategic outreach efforts to organizations and media entities that support health equity including partnerships with BU entities such as Boston Medical Center.

You’ll work closely with teams across the center utilizing the latest in marketing tools to support research projects, events and staff; engage key stakeholders, and help increase financial and other support.

As the content strategist -- responsible for creating dynamic content to support a range of projects – you’ll work closely with principal investigators, project directors, and external collaborators. You’ll design and produce print and digital brand materials that disseminate vital information and lessons learned to related constituencies and the community at large, including growing the CISWH audience through email marketing.

You’ll collaborate with SSW’s marketing/communications team and external agency on media outreach opportunities to showcase both CISWH and The Network’s research.

This position reports directly to the Director of Marketing & Communications for BUSSW and has a dotted line report to the CISWH Executive Director.

The Difference Is Our DNA

What compelled the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation to award Boston University a grant to fight newborn mortality in Zambia? Why did Martin Luther King, Jr. adopt BU as a place where he could hone his message of justice and equality? And what is the catalyst that prompts 32,557 students from 135 countries to call BU their home every semester? It’s in our DNA: an inherent desire in each of our students, faculty, and staff to vigorously and dauntlessly pursue knowledge—and embrace the unlimited possibilities that come with it.

A Community Unlike Any Other

As you can see below, it takes people, ideas, and a little luck (Boston, you’re our town) to make BU what it is today: one of the most dynamic universities in the world.

Celebrated thinkers: On any given day, students will find themselves mesmerized by Nobel Prize winners, a poet laureate, and the first biomedical engineer ever to receive a MacArthur Foundation “Genius Award,” among others.

Extraordinary teaching: When a classroom starts to percolate with new ideas, it’s because our faculty of scholars and accomplished practitioners know how to ignite students’ imaginations. That’s why we reward our best teachers with BU’s most prestigious honor: The Metcalf Cup and Prize.

Groundbreaking research: With faculty dedicated to a creative, interdisciplinary approach to problem solving, BU has become a leading global research institution—propelled forward by over $350 million a year in sponsored program revenue.

World-class students: Elite students from all 50 states and 135 countries pursue higher education on BU campuses in Boston and at programs in L.A., D.C., and more than 30 other cities on six continents.

A city within a city: Today, 80% of our undergrads live on campus, which could explain the 525 student activity groups alone.

The greatest college town in the world: Boston. ’Nuff said.
