College of the Sequoias is seeking a collaborative, innovative and enthusiastic Systems and Technology Librarian for a full-time, one-year temporary faculty position beginning August 2021.

Job Duties

The primary responsibility of this position is to support the statewide Library Services Platform (LSP) and District's academic database collection through maintenance and assessment. Cataloging, collection management, liaison and reference support will also be required. Assignment will be on the Visalia campus, including travel to other District locations and/or evening hours.

Participation in the governance of the District by way of committee assignments is expected. Other responsibilities include maintenance of a number of office hours, full participation in departmental responsibilities and the willingness to create and/or participate in and sustain an atmosphere of equity which is respectful of diversity campus wide.

Qualifications

The candidate must meet the following criteria. The degree must generally be from an accredited institution such as the Western Association of Schools and Colleges or the equivalent.
  • Master's in library science or library and information science from an ALA accredited institution OR
  • the equivalent AND
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

    DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

    Desirable Qualifications

    In reviewing application materials, the Hiring Committee also seeks evidence of the following:
  • Experience in and/or commitment to working with students and faculty from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, academic and disability backgrounds. (Diversity response will be completed as part of the application.)
  • Ability to work collaboratively with librarians, faculty, staff, and students on information literacy instruction, reference, assessment, library services and collection management activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to access information via information retrieval systems, online library catalogs, and the Internet.
  • Experience with Library Services Platform (LSP) maintenance.
  • Knowledge of Dewey Decimal Classification, original cataloging, subject headings, Resource Description and Access (RDA) and MARC.
  • Knowledge of industry trends in search, discovery, and delivery systems.
  • Experience leading assessment of collections, including academic databases use.
  • Experience with web page software (such as Sharepoint) and demonstrated proficiency using the Web, working with standard computer office applications, or other productivity software.
  • Awareness of the philosophy and objectives of the community college.

    Organization

    College of the Sequoias is a two-year California community college offering educational and enrichment programs for the residents of its district in Tulare and Kings counties. The college was established in 1925 and moved to its current 62-acre main campus site in Visalia in 1940.

    In addition to the campus in Visalia, COS operates a full-service center in Hanford that is also home to the college's police and fire academies.

    COS also opened its Tulare College Center in January 2013. It is a full-service college center and the home of COS' agriculture program
