Overview

Applications are being accepted for a full-time Communications Specialist at Moraine Park Technical College, Fond du Lac Campus.  The Communications Specialist is responsible for creating content in the form of news releases, publications, social media, and blog posts, to assist with the overall communication strategies for the College. This role will also assist with the College’s external relations efforts through community engagement events and activities, including cultivating and maintaining external relationships and establishing and executing community engagement partnerships.

 

Applications will be accepted until the position is filled; however, initial review of applicants will take place June 17, 2021. 

 

Beginning: August 2021

Responsibilities1. Serve as copywriter producing communications with the goal of sharing key information and messages throughout the College and community. 2. Serve as a primary writer/editor on major projects such the College’s magazine, annual report and other public-facing communications.3. Develop story lines and conduct research and interviews as appropriate to prepare blog content, feature articles and press releases.4. Write and disseminate press releases, enewsletters and feature articles to print, broadcast and electronic media outlets.5. Assist with external relations through community engagement efforts and events. This includes coordination of education-related events aimed at increasing engagement between external stakeholders (students, parents, community members) and the College, and coordination with appropriate areas of the College to execute the event planning.6. Assist with crisis communication response and support.7. Assist with social network messaging and content as needed.8. Monitor and document Moraine Park’s news coverage.9. Coordinate and submit state and other award nominations as needed.10. Perform other duties as assigned.Qualifications1. Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable principles, practices and abilities can be acquired.2. Two (2) years of experience in a marketing communications, journalism, public relations or applicable field.3. Previous experience in a college and/or public institutional setting preferred.4. Any combination of equivalent training and experience which provides desired knowledge, skills and abilities. 5. Expertise in content creation, social media and journalism processes and procedures including Associated Press Style.6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive, effective relationships.7. Demonstrated ability to work independently under pressure, exercising good judgment with minimum supervision.8. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse populations by promoting and maintaining an inclusive work environment and culture that is respectful and accepting of diversity.9. Strong computer skills including proficiency with Word Press, Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with email marketing tools and social network platforms; knowledge of media monitoring platforms preferred.10. Demonstrated knowledge of digital photography; electronic communications, including web and social media; and familiarity with advertising concepts. 11. Thorough knowledge of spelling, grammar, English usage and punctuation.12. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and to schedule, prioritize and organize multiple projects.13. Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to interact with all levels of internal and external customers.14. Possession of a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License, and the ability to travel and at times work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, is required.Benefits Summary
