Position Summary:

Florida Atlantic University is seeking an IRLON Data Analyst, Fort Pierce, FL.

This position will participate in the Indian River Lagoon Observatory (IRLO), a multi-disciplinary research program to investigate the ecological relationships in the Indian River Lagoon (IRL) and how they are impacted by natural and human-induced stressors. This scientist will work with the IRLO Principal Investigator and team, with an emphasis on the refinement and implementation of secondary quality control protocols for continuous water quality data following best practices, and the generation of “trusted data” from IRLON’s currently available provisional data. The Data Analyst is expected to pursue this work with specific guidance or advice from the immediate supervisor.

Summary of Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop and implement automated protocols for secondary quality control of IRLON continuous data and associated ancillary data.
  • Generate “trusted data” from IRLON’s currently available provisional data.
  • Coordinate with IRLON Manager and Environmental Analyst to develop formal Data.
  • Management Plan for IRLON to include documentation and data provenance for all procedures.
  • Integrate data in varying formats from laboratory, field, and outside vendors from IRLON QAQC procedures.
  • Be familiar with and understand continuous data sets and quality assurance/quality control procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

BA/BS from an accredited institution in Data Science, Computer Science, Environmental Sciences, or related fields and two years of coding experience required.

Must be proficient in one or more big data programming languages such as R, Python or Bash with at least two years of applicable coding experience.

Applicant must also have excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, and an ability to communicate effectively with both technical and public stakeholders.

Preferred:
Experience with relational databases including PostgreSQL.
Previous experience with quality assurance and quality control of continuous sensors.
Previous experience with Markdown and/or GitHub.

Must be a motivated self-starter, capable of working independently as well as in a team environment.

May require some weekend and/or evening work in addition to regular work hours.

$40,000 - $45,000
