Dean, School of Health Professions

Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) seeks a visionary and inspirational leader to serve as its next Dean of the School of Health Professions (SHP).

Located in the Texas Medical Center—the largest collection of medical research, clinical, and educational institutions in the world—the Baylor College of Medicine School of Health Professions enjoys unparalleled opportunities for professional collaboration and training. Four major hospital affiliates on the TMC campus provide foundational clinical settings for most of our programs and affiliate clinics beyond Houston provide further opportunities.

The SHP hosts four nationally renowned degree programs: Master of Science degrees in Genetic Counseling (GC), Orthotics and Prosthetics (OP), and Physician Assistant Studies, and the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in Nurse Anesthesia. The GC program is closely aligned to the Department of Molecular and Human Genetics which consistency ranks first in the nation in NIH funding; the OP program established a model paradigm for education as the only program in the country to incorporate an integrated residency into the curriculum, utilizing training sites across the country; and our DNP and PA programs are consistently ranked among the very best in the nation.

The SHP is home to 27 full-time faculty and 12 dedicated staff members and draws numerous shared faculty and course directors from BCM clinical and research departments. The four degree programs admit more than 100 total students annually. Degree programs span 22 to 36 months, and total student enrollment ranges 210 to 290 across the year.

The School and College utilize holistic review principles in faculty recruitment and student selection that value a broad range of personal attributes, experiences and competencies aligned with mission-related equational goals. The new Dean will participate in shared leadership with the Associate Dean and Program Director of each degree program to ensure continued educational excellence, champion advancement and promotion of faculty, and prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives for faculty, staff, and students.

The ideal candidate will not only ensure ongoing maintenance of the current educational programs, but also engage transformational leadership to develop a shared vision for the School's strategic plan, identify opportunities for program expansion and philanthropy, and model and mentor for faculty, staff, and students.

Interested candidates should forward their curriculum vitae, a one-page summary of research accomplishments and relevant administrative experience, and a brief vision statement for the future of the Department. Forward all materials via e-mail to Dr. Nancy Moreno, Search Committee Chair, at deansearch@bcm.edu.
