Overview

The Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory is a world-class fusion energy research laboratory managed by Princeton University for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Science. PPPL is dedicated to developing the scientific and technological knowledge base for fusion energy. The Laboratory advances the fields of fusion energy and plasma physics research to develop the scientific understanding and key innovations needed to realize fusion as an energy source for the world.

Under direction from the Engineering department and in coordination with the Work Control Center, the candidate will participate in all stages of design and development, procurement, and planning and execution of electrical construction work at the NSTX Test Cell and other experimental areas. The individual will perform repair, troubleshooting and maintenance of electrical systems.



Responsibilities

  • Offers input to design and layout of electrical work
  • Selects appropriate hardware and initiate procurement of material
  • Writes installation and maintenance procedures as required
  • Develops EWP (Engineering Work Package)
  • Supervises field installation and implementation by own team or subcontractors
  • Meets with cognizant engineers/designers/cognizant individuals to review the work packages and provide technical and procedural input
  • Works closely with cognizant engineers; plans and schedules electrical work for all experimental area technicians and subcontractors. This includes reviewing drawings, estimates by others of manpower and materials needed to perform tasks
  • Is capable of install and de-install of various types of wiring, cable, conduit, switches, fixtures and circuits, cable pulls through conduit and tray
  • Installs lighting and power circuits, fiber optic cables, power control equipment, motors and generators as needed
  • Troubleshoots wiring and circuits; inspects equipment using testing equipment
  • Mentoring of new/junior electrical technicians


Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma (Minimum); Electrical certification, LOTO, Arc Flash, OSHA
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working on complex electrical systems as relates to the experimental fusion and confined plasma science devices such as TFTR, NSTX, FLARE.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Has working knowledge of and performs based on Laboratory’s Conduct of Operations and work planning and control
  • ES&H requirements and Engineering department procedures
  • Encourages others to be safety conscious and observes safety rules including the use of safety equipment
  • Reviews all electrical work for code compliance
  • Complies with ES&H Directives, DOE Orders and OSHA Standards
  • Attends required training and ensures that assigned technicians have the necessary training, qualification and experience to perform their assigned tasks
Certificates and Licenses:

  • Training: High Voltage; OSHA 510; NFPA 70, NEC
Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to climb ladder
  • Work on raised platforms
  • Lift up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions:

  • Predominantly first shift; occasionally 2nd shift
