    The Director of the Mount Mary University Caroline Scholars Program serves in a part-time, 10 month position and reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs. The Director is primarily responsible for the development, implementation and reporting of all facets of the Caroline Scholars Program.

    This scholarship funded in part by the Burke Foundation, http://www.theburkefoundation.org/was created through the generosity of the late Richard A. Burke, founder of the Trek Corporation. The program was named after Mother Caroline Friess, foundress of the School Sisters of Notre Dame, North American Chapter. Mother Caroline established quality educational institutions across the country that particularly served children and young women. Caroline Scholars grow to reflect her strength and pioneering spirit.

    The Program provides a four-year, full-tuition scholarship to full-time undergraduate students with a passion for social justice. It is awarded to six academically-talented high school graduates each year. Applicants must demonstrate exceptional commitment to community, exhibit strong leadership skills and have vocational aspirations to serve the public good. The Caroline Scholarship is a rigorous program that integrates academics, structured service learning and career goals to develop inspiration and intellect for innovative change. A significant part of the program is the commitment to complete 300 hours of community service each academic year. The scholarship also provides related programming that assists student in synthesizing their academic curricula, co-curricular activities, leadership development and service learning.

    Primary Responsibilities:

    In assuming the following responsibilities, the Program Director will serve as a liaison for the Caroline Scholars Program and all appropriate offices, including Academic and Student Affairs areas, Admissions, Business Office, Financial Aid and Alumnae & Donor Relations.

    Academic Programming

    • Take primary responsibility for the development, implementation, and continued revision of the Caroline Scholars curriculum. Programming challenges students to gain a progressive understanding of social justice issues and their integration at local, national and global levels.
    • Proactively cultivate corporate and community partnerships to increase service learning opportunities and facilitate mentoring opportunities for students. Work with the University Service Learning Coordinator to maintain a database of appropriate sites and support the development of new sites.
    • Develop evaluation and assessment processes that demonstrate a cycle of continuous program improvement.
    • Ensure student learning outcomes show evidence of meeting program objectives including the advancement of critical and creative thinking skills that lead to development of the whole person.
    • Communicate with MMU faculty and related administrators about the academic progress of Caroline Scholars.
    Administration

      Play a significant role in the recruitment, retention and persistence of Caroline Scholars.
        Collaborate with the Admissions Office to identify and review applications for incoming cohorts, develop protocols and conduct interviews.Work closely with Academic Counselors and Student Success Center staff to provide guidance and support for students.
      Manage the operations, budgets and programming related to grant implementation.Take the lead responsibility on preparation of all reports to the Burke Foundation.Coordinate with Institutional Research and the Alumnae and Donor Relations Offices to gather and interpret quantitative and qualitative data for reports provided to the Burke Foundation.Collaborate with the Vice President for Academic Affairs and other content expert volunteers to maintain the academic integrity of the program.Supervise the Caroline Scholars Graduate Assistant.Coordinate annual Caroline Scholars events (e.g. student gatherings with Burke Foundation, End of the Year Celebration/Induction Ceremony)Correspond with program alumnae and work with Alumnae & Donor relations staff to maintain database of graduates. Perform other duties, responsibilities, or special projects as assigned.
    Skills and Experience:

      Master's degree in Education, Higher Education Administration, Public Service or Social Justice related field required. Strong commitment to, knowledge of and experience in leadership development and inclusive excellence best practices.Values compatible with and supportive of Mount Mary's Mission and Vision as a culturally diverse, Catholic, University sponsored by the School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND). Availability to work some nights and weekends when needed in order to ensure a quality student experience. Ability to enrich Mount Mary University's cultural, racial, and ethnic communities and actively support the mission and tradition of Catholic, SSND education. Evidence of strong problem resolution experience, analytical and innovative problem solving skills. Exceptional organizational and communication (written and oral) skills that contribute to effective collaboration with students, faculty, administrators and other community members. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, manage multiple tasks and exercise sound judgment. Demonstrated ability to cultivate collaborative relationships with all internal and external constituencies.
