The Solution Sciences Lab in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine designs programs to improve the health of children and their families, and evaluates them in real world clinical trials.

Position Summary

We are seeking a Research Coordinator to conduct data collection for a community-based, online, clinical trial evaluating innovative approaches to improve the efficacy of a weight control program for children with obesity and their families. This position will require collaboration with staff delivering the weight control program and working online with families enrolled in the program. This position will include all elements of the evaluation, including conducting participant screening, obtaining informed consent and assent, conducting remote physical measures, interviews and surveys from both children and parents/guardians in both English and Spanish, delivering an online intervention, and implementing procedures for data quality assurance and data processing. All activities with participants are anticipated to be conducted online. Thus, this position requires existing skills in, or high interest and capacity to learn, website development, the use of online survey tools such as REDCap and Qualtrics, and video-conferencing.

In this role, you will:

Coordinate studies from start-up through closeout.

Assist in the development of manuals of procedures and recruitment strategies for the study.

Develop online data collection and intervention protocols including creating websites for content delivery, using survey software such as REDCap and Qualtrics for screening and data collection, tracking participation and administering surveys, and creating videos or animations and/or teleconference protocols to guide parent- and child-measures of height and weight.

Serve as primary contact with research participants and weight control program staff.

Schedule and conduct data collection appointments throughout the study.

Determine eligibility of and obtain informed consent and child assent according to protocol.

Assemble study materials including forms, surveys, requisitions for laboratory measures, and equipment for remote study measures.

Develop video web-based tutorials for participants for on-line interventions.

Assess and maintain the condition of measurement equipment to promote accuracy of measures.

Conduct quality assurance on all data for completeness and accuracy.

Correspond with families regarding measurement results.

Plan collection and processing of laboratory blood measures.

Interact with the principal investigator regularly, ensuring participant safety, progress and adherence to proper study conduct.

Experience and/or interest in clinical research, particularly with children and Spanish speaking families.

Experience and/or interest in collecting physical measures and conducting interviews and surveys

Experience and/or interest in using research software and databases including Excel, Filemaker, REDCap, Qualtrics, and NDS-R

Experience and/or interest in developing online tools including web design, and video for data collection instructions and intervention content.

Enthusiasm for health promotion and disease prevention research and working with families so they participate fully in the research study

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Four-year college degree or more and relevant experience and/or interest in clinical research, particularly with children and Spanish speaking families.

Experience and/or interest in collecting physical measures and conducting interviews and surveys with children and their families

Experience and/or interest in developing online tools including web design, and video or animation for data collection instructions and intervention content.

. Experience managing social media and social marketing tools for study recruitment

Experience and/or interest in using research software and databases including Excel, FileMaker, NDSR and REDCap

Enthusiasm for health promotion and disease prevention research and working with families to help them participate fully in the research study

Spanish fluency (verbal and written)

Ability to maintain a flexible schedule, including periods of consistently working late afternoons, evenings and some weekends during periods of recruitment and data collection.

Ability to effectively collaborate with other staff, parents and children.

General understanding of scientific theory and methods.

General computer skills and ability to quickly learn and master computer programs

Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.

Excellent organizational skills and demonstrated ability to complete detailed work accurately.

Effective oral and written communication skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):

Two year college degree and one year of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):

General knowledge of medical terminology.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

Working toward certification(s) to perform basic patient measurements and tests, such as phlebotomy and EKG.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS*:

• Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat and use fine light/fine grasping.
• Occasionally sit, reach above shoulders, perform desk based computer tasks, use a telephone and write by hand, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 40 pounds.
• Rarely kneel, crawl, climb ladders, grasp forcefully, sort and file paperwork or parts, rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh 40 pounds or more.
